Hey who of you guys out there think that the XBox is better off as a game machine, or as a computer?

I have a serious debate going here with some of my roommates and I want to share the anguish and rage (including the feelings of inadequacy...or maybe it's just me?). The issue being that maybe consoles should just stay consoles? Why do Sony and MS want so bad to make "Home Entertainment/Data Centers" an all-in-one whore of Babylon system? I can't stand components that are brought together because they end up weaker than if they were by themselves. I can tolerate online multiplay on consoles cuz that’s a good idea but when they put in Web browsers, video recording software and digital editing capabilities it kind of dilutes the purpose. Consoles will be weakened because Game Designers/publishers will begin to put out other types of software and kill the purpose of games. Which of course is :Clean fun. This is why I respect Nintendo in their choice to make just a game console (including Online Multiplay) no other shit. Kudos to them, that being my opinion, bring it on guys.

all these systems lead to more advances in gaming....thats good, not bad.....i own all but the cube.......the games for that system dont do it for me.......

that said, i prefer games over the system that they are on....if its fun ill buy it, reguardless of the name on the system.

Just think of all the old school systems.....Atari2600, intelivision, hell, even the 3DO system (which i still play to this day) have laid the ground work for all the games of today.

There will be new systems that come along to give us gaming goodness....i dont care if MS or sony or nintendo or some upstart makes them.

Just so long as there are games!!! long live games

As long as the quality of the games doesn't suffer, then bring on all the extra techno-goodies. And it is possible that companies may make two versions - geeked out version and pure console version. I think MS has hinted at this in the past. Homestation and Xbox Next are two different products, for example.

I found this really interesting article in GameSpot, basically saying that XBox was intended to be a game PC without all the frustration of a PC (crashing, drivers, compatibilities...) MS is on the track to come up with an idea like that, I think.

From the experience we learned from Dreamcast, however, we know that better product doesn't necessarily gonna sell. XBox had to defeat PlayStation2, and that is a big pick! If XBox is not from MS, it is dead already!

I think sooner or later Xbox will even the odds, maybe even win this competition. After all, the promise of a console platform that is as powerful as a PC is too tempting...

rofl, there's so many dumbasses that say "but it's a PC, so why would you want it?"

ROFLROFLROFL, i love when people say that, i always catch them off guard when i say "dumbass, Super Nintendo was a computer! All consoles are computers, just PS2 is a crappy one!"
