If any of you have been running to some stores or reading shit online, a few places have it already on sale...again. What I've heard so far is that there is a SecuRom downloader that comes in the DVD. So the game installs and at the end it needs to download a fix to unlock, just like the "demo", but the fix comes out on Tuesday, the official release date. The good thing, this prevented a playable leak prior to the release date, so far. Bad thing, weird fucking stores doing early releases (should be illegal, as in crossing the publisher, unless/) or 2K pulling "y3a u can get 1t e4rly, but u pl4y on tuesd4y L0L!", and a shitstorm of kids complaining about needing online access (i.e. the HL2 days) and crying they got the game early for nothing. Wasn't there an interview that hinted towards a early release date for PC only?

Oh yea what the fuck happened to the demo? First we can preload it from Fileplanet (bleh) and wait til Monday to get the unlocker. While waiting in line, the demo file gets pulled. I was reading some people cracked the demo already, when I waited. Another person popped up saying that the demo was on another site still, I just tried it and it could be unlocked, but the server's slow as fucking hell. So why did 2K do this stupid shit with the pc demo again?

Finally here's my stupid observation (and decision): I decided to give gamestop's online site another chance after the MOMO steering wheel bitchfest (and others) I had with them. I placed an order a while back and I saw this:

We pride ourselves on making sure you get the latest games first. Pre-order by August 20 at 11:00 am CST and choose overnight shipping for guaranteed delivery on August 21. If your package doesn’t arrive on the street date we will fully refund your shipping charges…and cry.

Fine print: Void if you are unable to accept delivery. Continental U.S. only. (Aren’t you glad you passed on that Maui beach house?) Not responsible for delays due to incorrect address, payment information, publisher date change, inclement weather or little sisters.

Funny no? No indeed, but I thought this was decent of them. In reality it was a real waste of money. Either way, I don't have the time to go off to their stores and do all the crap with them, fucking college. Then we hear how Toys R Us and now other stores are doing early releases. If I could get one from the store, that would show that I completely wasted over an extra $15. I've never seen that Gamestop statement before and that should've automatically turned me off. I wonder how long their shops been sitting on Bioshock copies, as compared to the other games which they usually get on the said release date.

I was preloading the demo las night and taday it shows up in the "complete" of the download manager. little red print saying no mirrors available. I go to fileplanet and the stupid demo-preload-dedicated-frontpage is fucking gone, only showing that CoH beta which also works like crap.

And this is after forgetting the fact the demo was downloading at 40kbps because i couldn't even select a mirror/server, and only european and western work somewhat fine here. Guess spain is just too small for them to really care about.

Still whats worst is i don't even know how much of the demo has been downloaded and if it will be usefull at all in the end.

I hate these motherfuckers :(

Is anyone running Bioshock on an ATI 9600XT? Because after the intro movie, the screen and everything become really weird. I cant see the water, only the fire. And I dont have a cursor on the main menus.

Bioshock might not support that card, but download the latest drivers from ATI just in case.

I just found out that Bioshock only supports pixel shader 3.0 and up. My 9600XT only supports pixel shader 2.0 :(

Doesn't R6Vegas require PS3 as well? I think all Unreal Engine 3 games do so.. Roboblitz also refused to work on my old rig (although it didn't come as a surprise with a GFfx5200)...

Edit: wow, it does go faster after updating to FW163.44, i get about 5 to 20 fps increase. (i was using 163.11 before) Nice demo indeed

Runs great on my 7950GX2 with all the details maxed out. Seems like a fun game, but from the demo it doesn't seem any more than that. The Darkness blew me away, I felt way more immersed in that for some reason. Probably because of the awesome loading sequences and because the main guy you played was a full character.

Just one thing that annoyed me, everything is the wrong size. For example, no person in the world could carry the suitcases, they're not tall enough. Its all wrong.

I laugh at how people who bought the retail version are finding out that they can't install the game more than twice.

Overzealous copy protection FTW!

rofl, you serious? Does it have some kind of online activation thing?

Yeah, some new version of SecuROM with online activation. You're limited to two installs, and you aren't allowed to install it on a second machine (meaning you can't make a major upgrade to your computer, either).

The thing that makes me laugh the most is that the game will likely be cracked with in a week or so, at which point pirates won't have to worry about anything and legitimate users will be getting screwed left and right. HILARIOUS!

Tip for anybody planning on buying the PC version of Bioshock: Buy the Steam version because it doesn't have SecuROM, just Valve's activation tech which allows for unlimited reinstalls.

Its been cracked already... But thats a good to know.

Bioshock is awesome, thats all you need to know.

seems like some bullshit to avoid people lending the game to their friends.

You can install as manny time as you want BUT have to unninstall it or you get screwed. So the counter begins at 2. You install it and the counter goes down by 1. Unnistall it and it goes up 1 again. BUT if your windows gets corrupted and you can't unninstall the game..

And of course, pirates won't give a fuck about this once the have it cracked so i honestly don't understand the point of this whole thing :(

I hope 2K sees the light and bugfixes this in an future patch sooner or later because its just a stupid measure, only making vulnerable their legimate customers..

While I only own one physical copy of the game, and will only ever be able to play it on one xbox at any given time, at least I can use it as much as I want forever, with no other concerns

I've read that you can install the game on two computers simultaneously (at least that's what 2K Elizabeth said).

Also, this is almost a carbon copy of eLicense. The only difference is that with eLicense you get 1 active use and they install fucking software that shows up on control panel and is a bitch to remove. This really is nothing to me and after a couple runs (if no mods pop up), it'll be uninstalled and put away just like how everyone else will uninstall it eventually.

So, who has the game and how far is everyone?

I'm sure everyone here is savvy to the fact that you can upgrade your weapons, so I figure I should pose this:

What was your first upgrade?

After testing all of them, I settled on the rate of fire increase for the shotgun. The increased flexibility and overall rape the shotgun gains from this boost is unprecedented. I'm pretty sure there's no question that my second upgrade will be for the shotgun's damage. The only issue from there is where I'm going to get all the ammo I'll inevitably need for this beast. Sucks that the game strips you of your ammo stockpile during the middle of the game.

K, so I'm running it on XP. I was using the 163.44 drivers at first and was having problems with slow downs, but the previous 162.18 drivers had fucked up my games somewhat so I went back to my older 94.24 drivers. It seemed to lessen the slow downs, but if ya'll are getting a general increase in FPS I might try 163 again. Oh and I forgot to mention, some of the load times are awful, specifically loading new levels or the first load when start up. Loading a saved game while I'm already playing isn't bad.

And once I figure out how to do a spoiler button, I'll let you know my upgrades...

Lol, I wish Atrip's forums were actually supported by 2Lions. We'd have a spoiler-tag button by now.

This is my first 3 upgrades, it goes pretty far in FYI, if you don't want to know that much don't click it.

I didn't test them all out, but basically chose them based on my tactics against big daddies. First I went with increased tommy gun damage, as that was the best suited for run and gun combined w/ telekinesis lobbing the daddy's mines back at them. Then I went with, lets see, increased grenade launcher damage I guess, for the obvious power against daddies. Then I chose reduced chemical thrower consumption. Not sure about that one, I haven't even used that weapon yet but I figure it'll come in handy.

Your right about the lack of ammo later on, but once you can make ammo it picks up. Can't make a lot, but its powerful stuff.

Taking the Chemical Thrower upgrade was a great idea, I'd say. Now that I've had some time to dabble with it, I've found it's my favorite weapon as long as I'm not near any large bodies of water. It sucks if you are as the electricity and fire components are shut down and the liquid nitrogen component is basically worthless as is (I like to get items from the enemies I kill). But yeah, as long as that situation isn't the case, it deals out damage like a feind, not to mention can distract enemies given the nature of the AI when it's lit on fire or electrocuted. Talk about a beautiful weapon for crowd control.
