baulder's gate 1 & 2 i didn't like at all (in fact, i despise the infinity engine), but apparently, they're classics....
diablo gets old (thought, again, not to the rest of the world)

And speaking about the plot. The game is set in the aftermath of the nuclear war. You will have to make your way through the destroyed cities of north america ( yes it is USA). I am not going to tell you much about the plot (dont want to spoil the fun). But i highly recommend the game! [off topic] And this is the only game i know where you can actually FUCK someone[off topic]

If you DO go on the hunt for MechWarrior 2, be aware there are several versions. The game content is the same for all of them, but the graphics are different to an extent. Activision was marketing the "Titanium" version which had support for 3dfx and Rendition cards in particular, and Direct3D cards in general. I didn't think any of the formats looked as good as an earlier "MechWarrior 2 for Windows95" version, which was 2D only, but had a really clean look to it. I still see that version from time to time at weekend PC shows.
And, I would also recommend System Shock 2. Heretic II is also an inexpensive pickup in the bargain rack, and a pretty good game. Best looking Quake II-engine game of all time, IMO.

i lost faith in the mechwarrior series at 3. wasn't fun at all, so i figured it wasn't the type of game for me. i want to remind you to not compare these classics to current games while you're playing (although i guess if it's truly a classic, the time you play it really shouldn't matter).
steer clear of fallout tactics, and be sure to play daikatana ;)

If you like RTS game, please do try Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. Ground Control is another good one, too.
Have you tried Soldier of Fortune II yet? It is great. But make sure you play it at "Consultant" level. The levels below this are too easy, while the "Soldier of Fortune" level is absolutely impossible to play.

Clive Barker's Undying; like the first NOLF, went unappreciated and untried by FAR too many. undying had some of the best environmental effects i've ever seen (and heard).
anyway, i saw populous and instantly thought of dungeon keeper 2 (which isn't on your list); very enjoayble game.
i don't understand why you have some of these games. what compelled you to buy Post Mortem??? Nightfire? Tactical Ops????? you know it's avaliable free as a mod for UT, right? and i heard the coding is sloppy for the standalone.
i think you just buy and download games on impulse ;)
oh.....and freedom: first resistance. what were u thinking? :D
at this rate, i'm you'll find daikatana somewhere in the mix; maybe even that batman game that's based on the cartoon....
WhoGivesARatsAss
May 3rd, 2003, 03:45 AM
Actually i have the batman game.. lol it sucked ass.. also i buy games coz they are damn cheap.. and yeah undying rocked.. anyways many classic games arent even included in the list coz i dont have the cd or diskette anymore.. examples
Doom 1 and 2
Quake 1 and 2
Need for Speed 1
Wolf 3D
Hexen 1 and 2
Heretic 1 and 2
Duke Nukem 1 and 2 i think
and some others.. like monkey island 1 and 2 etc
now which i am thinking to buy are..
Deus Ex
Fallout 1 and 2 if i can find it
Rune
Star trek elite force 1
Curse of Monkey Island
Soul Reaver 1
Diablo 2
Theif Gold Edition
and Theif 2 if 2 is already not in the gold edition that is..
u didnt ask why the fuck did i get big mutha truckers.. and knight rider.. lol..
p.s. post mortem was a pretty cool game..

I agree with sushi on Clive Barker's Undying; it's a pretty cool game that somehow slipped by without too much fanfare. Staying with, I think, underappreciated games, as well as with the Unreal engine, I'd suggest Rune and Deep Space Nine: The Fallen. Pretty interesting single player games that look terrific, too. And, there's some pretty brutal, (literally) multiplayer in Rune. Ya' gotta love a game where you can hack somebody's arm off, and then pick it up and club 'em with it!
I approve of your Tac Ops purchase; it's allows you to connect to more servers, and the maps are improved over the mod version. And, while the bots aren't a great replacement for genuine opponents, with the latest patch they're at least a tolerable offline substitute.
sushi128
May 3rd, 2003, 03:30 PM
in any case.....is Tactical Ops worth 20$? i don't think so, especially as an enhancement to a free mod.
Rune was fun, up until i got REALLY frustrated with it and never bothered with multiplayer.
have you tried Ground Control (RTS)? it's not bad. Total Annihilation and Kingdoms doesn't seem to be on your list either (not great, but definitely worthwhile).
just wonderin, why did you choose to recognize Battlefield's Trademark and not the others? :D
omg, batman is on your list. hope that one is pirated, cause the game developers deserve it.
WhoGivesARatsAss
May 3rd, 2003, 10:32 PM
First off.. all these games are pirated.. simple.. end of story.. coz we dont get them here.. in any other form possible.. if i had the choice i would have bought the real ones just for the boxes.. coz i love boxes.. i even have the box of my p 200.. lol.. i wonder where it is now but i have it.. anyways.. back to the list.. so ground control it is.. and deep space nine.. though i hate star trek games.. as for tactical ops it suckes ass.. i never played the damn game.. if u want i can upload the excel file i keep.. it has all developer/publisher names and the score i gave to the respective games.. etc etc.. i started keeping track coz my bastard friends wouldnt return my cds.. and that got me mad.. anyways.. there are some really shitty games on the list that i have never played even.. so i was asking which ones are really worth the purchase even now.. just that
sushi128
May 3rd, 2003, 11:08 PM
well, that, and it's kinda hard to find good keys for multiplayer these days (i remember starcraft; practically any number would work, but according to the algorithm, 1 in 10000 worked on Bnet).

That was one of the scariest game I have played.... one of the level was so scary I had no interest of exploring, but rush my way to the exit instead, and despite the emptiness around me, I felf all the army from hell broke lose chasing after me with all the sound of wind blowing...
The scene that I would never forget in that game was a part I have to use a magic to help me to see the hidden event, in this case a heart on a very tall statue. I'm supposed to see the heart, shoot it down, and swim my way up when blood started to fill up the room. That statue fucking ripped his chest open, showing me his heart, with all that creepy screams..!!!! OMFG that game's atmosphere was crazy awesome!!!!
The final boss is very lame, though. That is the worst part of the game. All the boss are easy to beat in that game, too.

lol, yeah, the undying king certainly didn't RUIN it....but it was dissappointed. the scariest moment in the game was at the beginning, when that ghost in the blue suit (is that jacob?) appeared in the mirror. that was the beginning of a long trend of thinking "argh. how bout you turn on the lights before venturing further....". quite honestly, before this game, i thought any game that tried to scare me was a pushover (monsters busting out of walls don't do it; ghostly child-like whispers in a dark hallway lit by sequential sections of moonlight through the windows requires me to stop and take a breath).
WhoGivesARatsAss

Undying was the scariest game ever i must say too.. i remember firing up my headphones at night.. as u all know i play in the dark.. so u can imagine.. I WAS PLAYING IN THE FUCKING DARK.. damn and with headphone volume set to maximum with the hack and slash of my scythe.. damn i was so scared i had goose bumps on my dick.. really.. and the hairs on my arms were standing like a fucking spike field.. also i remember that the atmosphere was a killer.. most definitely.. never seen anything like it since then.. and yes i got my hands on rune.. going to fire it up after i run the doom 3 alpha.. damn thing wont run.. anyways.. also got me battlefield expansion pack.. was abt to pick up world of outlaws: sprint cars and k-hawk survival instinct.. until i remembered that k-hawk sucked donkey balls.. also picked up serious sam gold edition.. coz my second encounter cd wont run.. and missed out on theif gold damn!..

I almost always game at night, with the lights out or very dim. With all this "creative" use of light, or lack of same, in most titles, you can't see very well otherwise. I can't imagine playing Thief, for example, in a well-lit room. Or, Splinter Cell, as another example. Not to mention, the "mood" a dark environment brings to gaming. ;)
re: Deep Space Nine: The Fallen
This is a 3rd-person shooter. Just so everybody is aware, 'cause I know that turns some people off. As is Heretic II now that I think of it.
sushi128
May 4th, 2003, 02:15 PM
third person shooters are fine; and i was thinkin of that squad based star trek game, not Fallen. i just might give it a try (don't suppose it requires a rad9700, does it? :))

If you're thinking about getting Rune, I really would suggest you go for "Severance: Blade of Darkness" instead/too. Rune is a simplistic, multiplayer enabled version of Severance. Rune also has an multiplayer only expansion pack, so if you're looking for the multiplayer aspect of the genre, then Rune is the best choice but as a melee-action singleplayer game, it pales in comparison to "Severance: Blade of Darkness" :D

How off-topic are we? :)
I've got a couple of i440 BX boards that have an IRQ-less PCI slot. Enter the no-IRQ-needed V2 along with an adjacent twin. Those, along with a good GF2 in the AGP slot, give me great latitude on whose gonna render what. (As an UnrealED mapper, those Unreal engine games are pretty much permanent residents on the drives.)
I mean, what's the down side? With SLI, I can run 1024 x 768, and Glide is the native mode of the older Unreal engine. I love the new R300 Radeons, but they don't render the original Unreal very well; UT does a little better with them. The GF2, 3, and 4 do pretty well, I must say.
Unreal is probably my favorite game of all time. The D3D of the final version, (V226) is OK, but I still prefer V224 and Glide. I guess with so many damn computers, I can afford to devote a few to "special interests". Hey, I've even have a S3 MeTaL rig! (Really!)
***My apologies to WhoGivesARatsAss, for messin' up his thread.***

i sold my savage4; can't do MeTal any more :(
i won't be shovin the voodoo's back into my rigs anymore; they were officially retired (i think you've got all of us covered anyway). UT did MUCH better in GLide than with OGL or D3D, sometimes up to 10fps better.
i don't think he gives a rats ass if we're off topic or not (ahhhhhhh!!!! a cliche worthy of james bond.....).
let's steer it back:
get spearhead for MOH. short and fun (i emphasize SHORT). also get the expansion for elite force. the soul reaver games feature the coolest character ever, so might as well get Soul Reaver 2
WhoGivesARatsAss
May 4th, 2003, 10:27 PM
I have soul reaver 2 and i love crappy threads.. i guess that puts u all off hook.. as long as we are talking its fine.. btw doom 3 alpha rocks joes ass man.. this is way too cool.. anyways.. back to topic.. damn rune cd was so old it fucked up and didnt run.. i already have soul reaver 2 and am done with it.. was a pretty cool game in terms of character and storyline.. though many didnt like it.. similarly blood omen 2 rocked.. anyways.. after playing doom 3 every other fucking game i played since then looks like a fucking cartoon.. damn!
