Heres a website with a mini flash game that tests your vocabulary while giving you an incentive for doing so. For each correct answer given they will donate 10 grains of rice, if you get an answer wrong, you get an easier question, all the while it keeps track of your vocabularty level.
Heres the link: http://freerice.com/index.php
And heres my first attempt. Now, can any of you suckers top it =P

It's a fun game, but 310 grains is where I quit. Holy shit for reaching 4010.

That should feed about 620 nigerian families.

A more impressive accomplishment is to see how high you can get your vocabulary level, and how quickly you can do it. It raises or drops continually depending on how well you're doing.
I'm at 42 after a couple of minutes, with 240 grains of rice. I have a pretty decent vocabulary, but even I find these terms challenging up in the 40s. Haven't broken 50 yet. At this point, I've never even heard of most of these words, and I have to try to use my Latin knowledge to make educated guesses.

edit: Jeez, I give up. Almost got there (48), but most of the run once past level 40 was sheer luck. I'd like to meet the person who can get to level 50 and stay there indefinitely without cheating.

You guys realize that it probably takes over a thousand grains to feed a child for one meal?

Hah, I made some rice the other day and I remembered this thread. It would be quicker if you just worked minimum wage for a day and then bought rice with the money you make.

It's neat, but some of their synonyms are questionable. Ex. I have a hard time accepting that 'self-denial' is an acceptable synonym for 'austerity'.

From where did they get all this rice? The ad at the bottom of a web page is really enough to buy thousands of grains of rice?

Also 1000 grains of rice is a lot less than you think it is. Go count 100 grains of rice and you'll see.

Rice is fine for poor people. It is cheap and good for you.
