I did some googling, and apparently fucking your cousin isn't as wrong as we would think. South Africa used to have an excellent education system, but unfortunately its on a rapid decline. Well the US is a huge fucking country. k-12 public education in many parts of the country sucks. This is especially true in urban areas and the inner cities where education is not valued anyway. If you really look at it, the areas where the public schools suck are the places where the local culture doesn't value a good education. Going to high school with kids who would rather sag their pants and be "gansters" is really counter productive. If there isn't a demand for education, you can't really do anything about it. The public education system will continue to suck (in these urban areas) as long as this kind of a mindset exists. The private schools however don't have this problem.

That said, when it comes to higher education, there's no better place than the US. Schools like Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Duke, Cornell, UC Berkeley, etc lead the world of academia. There are 16 living Nobel Laureates from my school and even more dead ones :D both founders of Yahoo have roots here. Google was started here by two students as a research project. the guy who made firefox goes here. i've met some of the most incredible people here. They're all crazy geniuses.
