Hello, I bought a PNY(I know, but it was cheap! Runs damn good with stock cooling.) GF Ti4200 and oc'ed it to 299/582. Pretty good but I was wondering about these bios things. Is it worth it to flash my GF? Will I gain improved performance? Am I retarded? This card is a temporary until I get the infamous AIW 9700 PRO. I just want to test this 100 dollar card to it's limits. Thanks!!!

OH, how's the abit NF7-S I was thinking of getting one. Also, is the onboard sound good for promedia 5.1 systems? Thanks!!!

Flashing your bios is like using a vacuum cleaner to play with yourself: It may seem like a good idea, but in practice is more dangerous than it's worth. My opinion at least.

(NOTE: I don't mean flashing your MOBO bios, that can be quite necessary.)

no, flashing the video BIOS is completely safe. if it corrupts, then just have a PCI card handy. if the BIOS isn't right for it, it'll do any number of things that'll keep you from reading the screen. in that case, i've always just memorized the DOS commands and flashed it back to original (it's just a few lines; you shouldn't need to read the screen for that).

it doesn't help much, period. but worth a shot if you're bored.

Are there any overclocked bios' for the card anywhere? I know my mobo has an overclocked bios but I haven't gone near that. And yes, I am bored until I order my new stuff. I don't trust tiger direct anymore. I saw the XP 3000+ there has a 384 cache instead of 512! Who trusts new egg?

Ahhh, English class...

newegg is the best store on the net. if you don't trust them, you don't deserve their awesome business :D

and i've never really heard of a tweaked BIOS for the Ti4200. what you CAN do is find an OEM bios and tweak it yourself with this:

That's the response I was looking for! New egg dropped their AIW 9700 to 349 and 356!!! I got a GF Ti4600 from TD and it broke within a few months... Then TD told me about their return policy. Grrrr... oh, well. AIW 9700 here I come!!!

yeesh. My engrish isn't that good, try and remember my native language is Fremen, and that I am from 34,000 years in your future so it's a miracle I'm able to use such ancient language in the first place, not to mention that I'm even using this Machine Made In The Image Of Man's Mind, which is strictly prohibited by modern law!

(Yes, I'm J/K, I'm not insane!)

Oh, and BTW, I trust Newegg implicitly. When it comes to putting my bodies water on the line, they never let me down. I've ordered something on the order of 1,000 solaris worth of stuff from them (approx. $1,500 US dollars in 2003AD) and every single time, it comes on time, in working order, and very well packed.
