I have a new computer at my house. Then my friend told me that i can enhance my mobo by flashing it with new bios. So, i need to know what flashing is and is it dangerous to do it?? I mean does damage my computer..... :)

u don't seem like the kinda guy who enjoys pushin your rig towards melting point, so the miniscule gain in speed (sometimes none) isn't worth the flash. maybe in the future you'd want to upgrade, and flashing expands compatibility. besides that, forget it.

Flash your mo-bo is quite dangerous if you have no clue or you're following some kind of web-based instruction from no where... if it is your first time it is 99% sure that you are gonna fail. Right flashing does enhance your mo-bo by adding new features and increase it scapabilities, but wrong flashing at one step then you're done with the mo-bo...

What interesting about flashing a bios is that even you do everything the right way, it chance to succeed is still like 50%... here are some of my suggestions:

1) dont eat breakfast if you want to flash. I repeated two flashings with exactly the same procedures and the one without breakfast worked. :D

2) wear T-shirts, not shirts. The same reason from 1). :D

3) If there is a program from the website of the manufacturer, use it. Manual overrite fucks up 90%.

and also 15min into a hail storm, dawn or dusk; don't forget the BIOS dance. the gods get angry otherwise.

Can't you send it back to the company so they can fix it? I thought they could get it working again...O_o

Yeah but then you pay out the ass, and the tech support reps make fun of you, and noone wants that. The best way to flash a bios is to quickly take off your shirt. Don't expect any beads though.

Tell your friend to go straight to hell. As we say here in the U.S., (and presumably, throughout the rest of the world), "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Show of hands, please. How many people have toasted a motherboard with a bad BIOS flash?

(Rhenna throws both arms skyward, cursing the BIOS gods under her breath.)

Yeah, I did that. Luckily it was at work. :P no big loss, it was only a pentium 100mhz. Waaay outclassed by the celeron 733mhz machines we use otherwise.

lemme guess Rhenna; you probably don't even KNOW the dance

I know the damn dance frontwards and backwards. And, yes, I had the two midgets, AND the shrimp dip AND the freakin' jumper cables, too. What I DIDN'T have was the 32-inch elliptical woofer. Well, that is, I THOUGHT I had it. Hey, they TOLD me it was a 32-incher, it LOOKED like a 32-incher... ...how the HELL was I supposed to know it was only 30-1/2 inches???

And, right! Like you never made the exact same mistake, too! Ha! Don't make me laugh!

i post from experience my friend. the gods have messed with me in ways you cannot imagine. Please, i beg all of you, follow procedures when flashing the BIOS.

PS: HA! the ol' "30 1/2" woofer mistaken for a 32" excuse. ::cough:: n00b mistake!!! ::cough:: :p The only mistake i'll admit to is having the scorpion tattoo on second midget instead of a pink pony on the first. i'll tell ya, i paid for that dearly.....

thanks guys for the info and procedure that i need to do before flashing my mobo (although i don't know the mobo flaashing dance).

Anyway these are my specs for my rig....

Pentium 4 2.4 Mhz
Geforce 4 4280 with AGP8x
512 MB DDR RAM
40 GB Harddisk
Intel P4 Motherboard (which series i don't remember)

What else.... I think that it, the important spec when playing a game. So, do you guys think is it worth i flash my mobo????

TQ :) :) :D

Well, flashing your mobo won't do anything to help turn it into a barton core XP with a 3000+ rating so it isn't worth it. :D Seriously though, before you even think of flashing your mobo, it would be worth your time to find out what BIOS chipset you have. Since flashing an Intel chipset with a, lets say nforce bios, would cause some small problems to occur I think it best you know exactly what mobo you have.

You won't see much in the way of performance gains though.
