I'm currently running a Zealot named Sordes, Destruction side on the server Dark Crag.
Feel free to hit me up if any of ya'll pick it up, it's awesome refreshing after having played WoW for so long. Very solid game.

My initial views on various game elements.
Public Quests: Holy fucking fun!
Public Quests offer a welcome alternative to the instances provided you in WoW. These are areas new players often end up stumbling into by accident, only to discover a host of other players standing before a giant beating the fuck out of it. While awesome, this is just plain confusing when you're new, and it takes running a PQ a few times to really get a solid feel for it.
Gameworld: lol@WoW
The game world, I'm including the lore, history, landscape and all into this category. The landscapes are realistically scaled, towns feel a believable distance apart, even though they suffer from the "Why are there so many people and so few houses?" problem I've witnessed in every fucking MMO ever. Capitol cities, at least Altdorf (only one I've visited), are quite frankly weaksauce. The games performance inside of the city is pitiful and there's really no reason to come to them, their build reminds me very much of Everquest 2s larger cities for some reason.
There's plenty of interesting things to do and see, Especially if you're playing Destruction
there's blinking eyes and marks of chaos dotting the landscape, very cool stuff if you ask me, which you didn't, but fuck you I'll tell you any how.
The "Tome of Lore", or whatever the hell they call it, is a book you drag about with you during your adventures through Warhammer. The tome documents your feats in the storyline, has chapters upon chapters of fiction to read and explain to you the story. It's also the place that houses your "Titles", these may very well be my favorite part of the game, by far. You get new titles for performing various acts in the world "The Pincusion" for getting your ass kicked "The Validated", merely for validating your email address. I imagine there are hundreds of these things and it is awesome.
PVE: Weak
The PVE gameplay is, well, it's weak. It's far more streamlined and easier to navigate through than WoWs and from what I can tell this far into the game is only there as a vessel to further your level in an attempt to get into higher RVR tiers. Questing consists mainly of your standard "Go kill lots of this", while played out, it has a neat new feature. If you ran through somewhere and slayed 300 Weenis Demons on your own, if you pick up a quest at a later date, those kills are counted, rawk.
RVR: Festival of stupid
It's obvious that this is a first time MMO to alot of people, their lack of understanding of their characters class is painfully evident. If you receive a heal I guarantee you won't know what the fuck was just cast on you as it's more than likely the first time that's ever happened. Healers just DPS people, squishy DPS classes jump into the fray like dipshits, etc. Having not made it into a higher tier I pray that folks realize how they need to play by then.
More impressions on the way!

If you play on any other server than Dark Crag the game sucks ass. It's got queues, but it's fully worth it to have tons of people to quest and RVR with.
Destruction is totally short on heals, my name is Sordeo, hit me up if you roll Destro on Dark Crag, like a man.
If you don't like healing and enjoy being a burly bad mother fucker, Chaos Chosen are the shit.

I went to go on Dark Crag, but the name I wanted was already taken and using any other name is unacceptable.
My name is Hellhammer and I'm a Chaos Marauder. Marauders fucking pwn. I can turn into part lobster (massive claw arm) OR have a giant fucking sword for an arm. It doesn't really get any more badass than that.
First impressions:
Public Quests
Pwnage. Why this was never done in WoW, I'll never know. The concept has to be one of the best things you could ever ask for in an MMO. Walk up to some crazy battle, join in, earn Influence and Experience, collect your free rewards for attaining each level of Influence. Lots of fun!
Game World
I will agree with future man that the PVE quest navigation is made a lot easier, as your map shows you the general area that the quest is in. I see that as a good thing though. Sometimes in WoW, not knowing where you're supposed to go was an unnecessary annoyance. It helps make the grind feel a little less tedious when you can at least determine where you need to be. That's another reason the PQs are so good. They break up the grind.
The Titles and Achievements are cool. It looks like there are a ton of them and while they may not have a big impact on your stats or anything, they're a nice bonus. I am Hellhammer The Crucial Crusher.
I agree with future man again about the awesomeness of the surroundings. The blinking eyes, constant canon fire, cries of agony, and just general... Chaos (lol). It feels less cartoony than WoW, that's for sure. It feels more like you're on a fucking brutal battlefield. Running around, cutting guys to shreds with my giant lobster claw is a ton of fun.
My only real complaint so far is the fucking LAG sometimes. I played from about 8:30PM to 11:30PM last night. In some areas, it was smooth, but in others, it was a fucking unplayable nightmare. One good thing I can say about the way the game handles lag is that if you're moving forward and you hit a lag spike, when the lag fucks off, you're still in the same spot as when it started. No sudden teleporting into the middle of a giant enemy mob. Oh, and that's one more thing. The aggro distance seems to be toned way the fuck down from WoW. It seems like it should be significantly easier to avoid accidentally aggroing a thousand mobs onto you.
Sadly, I haven't had a chance to do any RVR yet, so I can't comment on that.
Overall
Awesomeness. Especially for an MMO that's just been released. Aside from the lag issues, the game seems pretty solid, fun, immersive, and addicting. It's like WoW, but better.
Hit me (Hellhammer) up on Rakarth server.

You might want to reroll on a high pop sever once you hit the Tier 2 areas and above, that happened to me. It goes from decently populated to fucking barren wasteland of no one to quest with and no one to kill.

Hmmm... didn't realize it was that bad. When I joined last night, Rakarth was a high/high population server. I suppose a lot of those are new accounts like mine though. I guess it will depend on how much free time I have and how quickly I rank up if I outpace the majority of players or if by the time I get that far, there will be enough people for me. The biggest issue is I'm uncertain of exactly how much time I'm going to have to put into this thing.

It's alot more forgiving than WoW, time consumption wise. I'm level 11 and I've only put 10 hours in so far.
Striker
September 26th, 2008, 05:56 PM
Honest question. How do you consider this any less of a timesink than WoW? They're both MMOs of the same general style. You can quite easily get to level 11 in WoW in under 10 hours. Just curious, as it seems like they'd be no different in terms of time invested, to me.
future man
September 26th, 2008, 08:47 PM
In WoW you can easily spend up to 2 hours looking for a group, even when it was newer. In this, the most I've spent (and this is due to the way the game is designed) has been 0 minutes, people are just constantly in the areas you need to group because you have no real choice.
The levels don't scale the same as they do in WoW. I would say that in WAR, level 10 is the equivalent of maybe reaching level 25 in WoW in terms of your skills available and your understanding of your class.
Basically, the amount of content you experience, character depth and all that is far greater in that 10 hours in WAR as it would be in WoW. You just get more out of your time.

Dark Crag is an open RvR server isn't it? Which basically means you are always flagged for RvR. So how is that?... I kind of like being safe in non-RvR areas, but on my server there often isn't anything going on at the keeps and objectives.
Anyway, maybe I'll roll a character on Dark Crag. Getting bored of my Shaman.
What do you think of the Scenarios (WAR's battlegrounds)? I haven't had a chance to be max level in one yet, but even when I'm lower than everyone I can still kick some ass. Destruction wins usually, so that helps.

I only played one, Nordenwatch, to complete a quest. It was pretty fun. I was only Rank 4 and I was still able to hold my own. Then again, I got the Bolster buff, which raised me to Rank 8 for the duration of the Scenario. I'm assuming this is done to try and keep everyone on a more level playing field, as I was going up against guys as high as Rank 11. I ended up somewhere around 6th or 7th out of about 20 players. Overall, it felt a lot like WoW's BG. Hold more points to raise your team's score faster. First team to 500 wins. We lost horribly. Not sure if that was an omen of things to come or if I just had bad luck and got stuck with a group of unusually idiotic morons. Meh. It was still fun anyway.

It's also the most awesome way to level. You can pound out a level in an hour and a half if your side is on a good win streak.
If you dig the Scenarios, all your dicks will be coming when you hit Tier 2, way more awesome stages.

As a Shaman you shouldn't have to worry too much about it, mang. My 16 Zealot has never been below 4th on the heal-o-meter at the end of the scenario.
Also, I scoped out some of the 16+ Renown gear, it's all shit compared to PQ bag drops.

That sucks. I got lucky at rank 10ish in getting PQ rewards and random loot, but since then I've gone to multiple locations for PQs and couldn't find a head reward until chapter 9 in one area, and still need a cloak. The look of shamans at low levels is weak, and I'm trying to look sexy.

How in the hell am I supposed to complete my quests when they are all located in places filled with enemy human players that are at least 5 ranks above me and in groups of 3 or more?
