I don't own Empire: Total War so you can classify this more as a comment than an answer to your question, but I would imagine that your major concern would be your onboard graphics, not your processor.
I think the 40 stream processors in your 780G might be hard-pressed to render what I'm assuming to be a state-of-the-industry RTS in a convincing manner except at the lowest possible visual quality settings. Not only in terms of this game, but gaming in general, I think you would be better served by considering acquiring a discrete graphics card rather than worrying about your processor. Not to mention, you would recover the system memory currently being used for graphics. Even something as modest as an nVidia 9500GT or ATI HD4650/4670 would be a major step up. (Keep your power supply capabilities in mind.)
I'll take your word that the system requirements for this game specify "2.6GHz" for the CPU. But, I have to believe that they're referring to something along the lines of an old-skool 2.6GHz Pentium 4 or it's AMD equivalent. If this game calls for a modern processor with this kind of clock speed, (i.e., an Intel Core2 or Athlon X64/Phenom), it must be a real pig of a game engine. Even at 1.8GHz, a Phenom 9100 should be able to blow the doors off a 2.6GHz Pentium 4.
If there is a demo for this game available, try it and then you'll know...

I would put money down that you're going to have some problems running Empire.
But just so you know, the older Total War games are great (in some cases better) and are less demanding. I recommend Rome.

The first Medieval, to me, remains the pinnacle of the Total War series. Rome is serviceable if modded to remove the horribly innaccurate stuff.

Appreciate the input everybody.
So if I wanted to get a good RTS turn based strategy game that runs on my PC without problems. Rome Total War is a good game to get? Also will it run on Vista?
