So me and my fiancee are in the process of deciding all of these little shitty details for our wedding and the following reception. One of the more interesting things that we've been deliberating is the song we'll use for our first dance. At first, I suggested The Jurassic Park Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8zlUUrFK-M), and that we could choreograph a conceptual modern dance routine based on the scene where Sam Neill threatens the fat kid with a raptor claw, but mysteriously she didn't fly for that.

Now, we're pretty solid with Ben Folds' The Luckiest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cwlL9tZo30). My mom claims that it's too depressing, but I like it because it doesn't take itself too seriously and still manages to satisfies sentimentally.

As a community built largely of largely built folks with little hope of marriage, discuss what we you dance to at your theoretical weddings.

My gf and I have quite an ongoing debate about the whole marriage thing. Not whether we'll get married, that's pretty certain, but details. Not so much the first dance, but other things.

So far we've agreed to:

A bouncy castle (her request)
A steel drum band (my request)
Keeping it around 50 people (mutual agreement)
No funky ass first dance, just a straight up Waltz, which I've agreed to take lessons to learn
Justice of the Peace, not a priest or minister

That's it so far, but as I said, the subject comes up periodically.

As for the first dance, I've had a soft spot for this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFcZaIAx5JA) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Its a nice little love song.

Never really thought about it (don't plan on gettting married for anytime soon). But I like these two songs:

Better Than Ezra - Our Finest Year

The Beatles - In My Life

Can't think of the title for some reason, but that old Stone Temple Pilots slow tempo tune with the lyric, "I'm half the man I used to be" seems pretty appropriate. ("Creep"?)

I've one word of serious advice for anyone contemplating marriage: elope!

When I saw you had linked to a RHCP song I was REALLY expecting Sir Psycho Sexy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDILn2OIrkQ)...

I think we impressed quite a few people with our choice - Frank Sinatra's 'The Best is Yet to Come'. We're both outwardly metal/industrial fans, don't think anyone was expecting that, though I do have a soft spot for the classics.

Well shit, man, if we're going down that road, then why not this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XSXrfIulBg)?

Also, Little Chief, I strongly believe in this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fZQdDGW-qo).

Oh lighten up. Chad Kroeger can at least sing better than the growly shit Iced Earth's singer comes up with (yes I know full well it's not all growling, and that relative to other metal bands, there's less growling, so shut up).

IcedEarth

Growling? 95% of Iced Earth's material is in Matt Barlow's clean singing voice, which certainly blows Chad Kroeger's whiny bitch voice out of the water.

Speaking in the third person, I see.

I don't understand. You acknowledge there's next to no growling in Iced Earth, yet somehow insist that Kroeger's whines constitute better singing. Does not compute.

What I was trying to do, poorly it would seem, was make the point that shitting on Nickelback isn't difficult or particularly original. Yes, they have two songs, but Chad Kroeger's voice isn't especially unpleasant. Now, I did that by attacking another band which was completely unrelated, and in doing so kind of crapped on my own point. So there.

Interesting.

For the record, Kroeger's voice IS especially unpleasant. :P

Bumpedy bump.

I've been thinking about this and have come to the following conclusion. Whether or not you like the voice of a singer is a deal breaker. Personally, I dislike the singer from Kings of Leon's voice, so I don't like the band, no matter how much praise others may give them. That said, I do recognize that they have other qualities. They are talented guys.

In the case of Nickelback, they have very few redeeming qualities, so if you dislike Chad Kroeger's voice, then there's little that will make you like the band. The music is formulaic, as are the lyrics. I happen to not think that Chad Kroeger has such a bad voice, so I can stand the band.

I'm not sure where I was going with this. Uh... go Bombers, I guess.

Yeah, go Bombers!

Who am I kidding? They always lose. :(

In any case, I agree. A vocalist can indeed ruin an otherwise awesome band. I sometimes feel that way about Rush. The band are great, especially Neal Peart. He's a drumming God. However, Geddy Lee's vocals at times make me cringe.
