I did the biggest upgrade ever compare to most of you guys... I went from Geforce2 MX and PIII 500Mhz, to 9700 Pro and P4 2.6 Ghz. I wouldn't have to if my machine wasn't all screwed up, though.

anyway, assuming both companies improve drivers, looks like the FX will take the lead in doom 3.

but i was comparing the 5900 ultra to the 9800 pro; mistake. i should compare it to the NV30, in which case, you're right. they did get their shit together (32bit precision, 256bit wide DRAM bus, the nice fix in AF).

no, i was just sayin that the 9800 pro improved on next to nothin, so those who bought a 9700 just weeks before should get a 9800 pro for free; either that, or those who got a 9800 pro should get a nice 20-40$ rebate. and the 5800 held it's own. better than the Ti4600, so it wasn't a complete disaster.

I think you're all missing the REAL issue. Nvidia, when they develop and release the NV37 or NV43, (or whatever), can do the FX6000, FX6200, FX6700, etc. routine indefinitely.

ATI, it would seem, has only ONE major upgrade left; namely, the ATI 9900. Then they hit the wall. Somehow, the "ATI 10000" seems kind of pompous and bizzare. It sounds like the kind of video card that would be in a Robo-Cop movie. Of course, they could plan it's release to coincide with DirectX 10. Hmmmm... ...I'm beginning to see their strategy.

Seriously, I think $400 - $500 for a consumer video card isn't justified at this point, not when one can get a 9700 or 9700 Pro for well under $300. I'll concede a speed advantage on the new cards, but not a $125 - $225 advantage. I gotta believe things look just as pretty on the R300 cards, too.

As we all know, a whole bunch of NV35 [p]reviews popped up today. Anand took it a step further and tested the card under the Doom III engine. Here are some of the scores:

Well I predict Fx5900 is going to get a huge speed/quality upgrade from the official FX drivers aswell as FX5800, the official FX ie 50.XX drivers and I'm hoping by mid to end of summer the price will be around 350USD maybe less(I'm going to buy the 128Mb one, not the 256mb overkill).

The thing with FX is enormouse bandwith 26Gb, plus with early o/c it's getting 30Gb!!!

And with such a good Doom3 preformance it's going to rock for a few years to come.a

And I think it's worth the money, remember the one for 500USD is with 512 2.2ns RAM.

ati tried the 9000 and 8000 naming scheme in order to tell what generation of cards they were from (8500, DX8; 9500, DX9). then came the 9000, which was a dx8.1 card and the 8500 was faster. come on ATI......get the naming together, or performance won't be worth shit.

NAh, I bet there will be Radeon (XP FX Ultra Mega-wutever).
I dont think the new name is going to be a big problem for their well-trained PR team.

i found some nice friends at rage3d too and also on hardforum.. so that is not the issue.. avg IQ here is actually a lot less.. hehe.. but thats another story.. i know u hate my mobo but i cant just stop drooling over 2.4c and asus p4c800 deluxe.. but that shit is expensive and around 400 bucks and i aint got that kindof dough.. i am bending towards a 2.4b 533 one for now.. will that be a sufficient boost from a 1.8A?!
