lol, the first thing i thought of when i got all excited about "Revolutions" was "Shit, it's gonna compete with LOTR at the box office...."
i REALLY want LOTR to win, after losing out on the first 2 movies (the academy is so shitty). LOTR better win every fuckin award there is to win this year.
as far as the one opening on thursday, it doesn't have me as hyped as i am for return of the king.
that said, i'd take LOTR by a nose.

Matrix totally rules! All the characters in LOtR are just batteries, and only THE ONE could save them!!! Isn't that what we're fighting for? Isn't that worth dying for...??:D

Add Star Wars to that list.. visually all 3 movies rock but the Matrix is definately my fav of the bunch, i'm all about bending people into weird positions as they are tied up on cables and older women in tight leather and sweaty people in caves having sex and rolling on xtacy... oops umm ok yea Matrix rules.

Now that I've calmed down from my state of joyful insanity, I'll add my opinion. Like RADiator said, matrix is a new story, but I think both movies will be awesome. Just I'm more hyped up about the matrix because it's coming out soon!

sorry, the premise of the matrix is more appealing to me
plus the time period LOTR doesn't really appeal that much to me.

Tolkien gave birth to todays world of RPG, D&D and whatever. His books are godly. Matrix is a phase - it will pass. As for the LOTR movies - who can tell? I'm buying the DVD boxset as soon as it's released.

I agree. I think that once they make movies with better visuals, then all that the Matrix will have to stand on is the quasi-philosophical business, and, quite frankly, that won't last long either. It's been done before, and will be done again.
LOTR has kept people coming for years and years before the movies and will keep them coming after.
Not to say that the Matrix doesn't kick all kinds of ass for the time being though.

As long as you are just talking about the movies, I like matrix better. LOTR will be great but I'll like the book better. The movies are great and all (best ever translation from book to movie, part of that due to the fact LOTR doesn't have all that many different plot strands going on at the same time like Dune) but Matrix is concieved as being a movie, that is the Matrix's medium, print will always be LOTR's medium of choice.
I have never uttered the words "Don't read the book, just wait for the movie" with exception to that Micheal Chriton POS, Jurrassic Park.
Also, Reloaded has a 14minute long chase sequence, and a sequence where Neo fights 100 smiths. To quote Keanu's words "whoa". Oh, and just in case you wanted to know, Keanu means "wind from the hills" in Hawaiian, I got's ta malama da kama'aina.
