View Full Version : Now I'm MAD at Homeworld2

Everyone here has probably seen the screenshots of Homeworld2. As a diehard fan of the original Homeworld, I'm very disappointed. Such a shame that they did little on improving the graphics.

I was so excted to hear the news that the game is coming out this year, and remember that thread I started for Homeworld2? I was really looking forward to see what they have for us this time. Now I would rather wiat for a few more fucking years so they can get the things right.

Both Homeworld and Half-Life came out at 1999, and they all received many positive reviews. Now we all know that Half-Life is gonna rock our ass straight out of solar system, while Homeworld2 did virtually nothing to the original except adding some more polygons to the ship models, make a new interface, and some wacky damage effects.

We all know that homeworld's ship textures don't look too great, and I can't believe that after all these years the textures look exactly the same as they were in the first game; blurry, inconsistency at angles, and doesn't give any feeling of materials... just some color palatte.

Then the damage effect is improverd a bit... but still look likt shit to me. I was so shocked when I saw one of the video on which a capital ship was fucked by some corvettes. It has a big fireball, and it simnply disappeared.... oh come on!!! How about at least lots of debris flying around before it disappears!?

And those ship plates flying aroung when the ship is hit look all the same... all the debris has exactly the same size and exactly the same shape... they pops up from the part of the ship where it is hit while that part look still undamaged.... OMG if FPS can make bullets leave marks on the wall, what is so hard for them to atlease add some damaged texture on a fucking ship!? Some game has go as far as destructable geometry, and Homeworld2 doesn't even let ships look damaged when they were hit???

Now let's talk about the gamplay... First of all, they take away the formation feature, which means all my little strike crafts from now on are all gonna fly in the stupis delta formation. WTF!! The reason they kill it is because it "has no real effect on the gameplay..." WTF!!!! Don't they know how cool it is to just watch fighters fly in claw formations? How can I possibly do "evil scouts" trick if my scouts can even get into wall formation??

Then they make the strike craft's fuel consumption, because it is "frustrating...", which means from now on, the game is about mothership vs mothership, no more other complicated stuff. Why don't they just give us too fleets right from the start of the game, and two players throw all the shit they got on each other... I bet it's gonna be "frustration-free."

Again, the textures. Look like shit. The ship model has more polygons but can't see any advanced texturing or shader being used. People would say 'gameplay is more important than graphics..." well in that case everyone goes back to Starcraft, or play a console game. PC games has the obligation to look good. A game that could be good-looking but is not-good-looking is a fucking slacker, especially for a sequel of a successful title.

Now, the worst part.... the fucking voice-acting... I hope they will fix it before they ship the game. Sounds not just cheesy, but amatuerish. Not even 1% as good as the original. The music in the trailer sounds like a clone form Empire Earth, and it sucks.

Speaking of shipping, the box-art. My Fucking that is one hell of a ugly game box-art design. Well, the first one never look too good, either, so it should be okay then.

All these problems and they game is going to hit retail very very soon. I hope the people at Relic realize how dumb Homeworld2 looks right now, announce a couple of delays, tweak the shit out of the graphics and voice-over, and present a game all Homeworld fan would like to see.

To tell the truth I just about gave up on HW2, as long as it can be modded more easily that the first and especially Cataclysm I think a lot of people will be happy, hell I beat the game once and that was it, now all I do is play the Starwars, B5, and Startrek mods for it.. sure i'll still play it but it just seems like they just improved on the old game, kinda like Cataclysm was to the original HW, they took the old add some new and expected the fans to be happy.. what the fans wanted was something new from the ground up.. all the modders complain about poly limits, texture corruption and such, and it looks like as much as they said they were going to work with modders that much hasn't really been done to improve on the overall quality of the game.. i'll hold judgement till the demo is out though.. time will tell.

First off, are there any links to the videos in question? And then, I think Homeworld 2 has kinda lost its excitement for me too. I mean, back when they first announced it, it seemed pretty exciting. But at the same time, I loved Homeword, but I never beat it? Why? I just found the single-player campaign frustrating. As good of an idea as it was, the ships carrying over from mission to mission thing got kinda old.
At the same time, though, there are some things in that game that are still unparalleled, I think--radio chatter from a strike craft wing on approach impressed the heck out of me--so the challenge will be going beyond that and turning HW2 from a mediocre sequel into something kick-ass... From what you guys are saying, we won't be so lucky.

Yeah... the voice-acting was amazing, especially the battle chatters. I can't believe how much effort they put into the battle chatters. I have been playing that game since it was out, and I still hear new things they say in the chatter now and then.

Here are some good one, and I'm sure there are more:

"Group 1, where are the support?"

"Group 1, fall back now, fall back!"

"Group 1, ehh... running out of fuel, some help would be great..."

"Okay, that's it. Group 1, out of fuel. Repeat, out of fuel."

"Oh, man....."

"woo-hoo gun them down..."

"Under attack. What's the call?"

"We ain't really gonna do this, are we?"

"Group 1, ambushed!"

"It's over. Let's clean it up."

"Docking complete, thank you very much."

"Thank you, one-hundred percent."

"Alright, it's your call..."

"Group 1 under heavy enemy fire, requesting orders..."

"Fleet, where are those orders!?"

"Ok, we can do this."

Well, Halo didn't come out in 1999... Homeworld2 has all these time to improve the graphics. Relic sucks.

I know exactly what you mean it absolutly shits me up the wall when compainies do it the first game is fantastic and the second game is no better but trys to sell on the impresivness of the first. Shame on them for ruining a great concept and yian i really think you should send this post to the creaters and let them know how the gamers feel about their work its about time compainies do a little extra for the gamers instead of a little less for the money.

Hey and about halo i love what it was labelled : a Cencors Nightmare

I actually did... didn't you see a thread about this...?

http://www.atrip.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1011&highlight=irish

Obviously i received an auto-response. Besides, it might hurt their feelings. They might have made a mistake during the development of Homeworld2, but they might have tried their best. I'm here just to bitch about the game, and saying Relic's dudes didn't do as well as Valve's guys.

Well... it is actually understandable. Valve fed up their pocket fat and greasy with all the sales from Half-Life, and all the modes from it. During the period between 1999-2003, they had more than enough money to eat five meals per day plus snacks, while all they did was focusing on one title: Half-life 2.

On the other hand, Relic was busy renewing contracts with Sierra, and a lot of developers come and gone, some even worried that Relic might not be able to pull it through... then they have to work on Impossible Creature, which wasn't too successful as a game. They were too distracted to push Homeworld as far as Valve has dont to their Half-Life.

In colclusion, Homeworld2 is not as good as it could have been. It is very sad. The game is not out yet, but I can't believe that there would be any more significant improvement over what we have seen so far. It will be a good game, but it won't be great, and Homeworld fan wanted another great game...
