Roger Ebert Inception (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100714/REVIEWS/100719997) http://i.imgur.com/pj4tj.gifhttp://i.imgur.com/pj4tj.gifhttp://i.imgur.com/pj4tj.gifhttp://i.imgur.com/pj4tj.gif

Roger's my go-to reviewer, so I'm pretty sure this is gonna rape babies.

The movies often seem to come from the recycling bin these days: Sequels, remakes, franchises. "Inception" does a difficult thing. It is wholly original, cut from new cloth, and yet structured with action movie basics so it feels like it makes more sense than (quite possibly) it does. I thought there was a hole in "Memento:" How does a man with short-term memory loss remember he has short-term memory loss? Maybe there's a hole in "Inception" too, but I can't find it. Christopher Nolan reinvented "Batman." This time he isn't reinventing anything. Yet few directors will attempt to recycle "Inception." I think when Nolan left the labyrinth, he threw away the map.

IMAX at midnight, boys.

Been a fan of Nolan's for awhile now, probably try and catch it tomorrow night. Sadly there isn't an IMAX theater in my city yet :(. Nice to see somebody doing something original...getting somewhat sick of the sequels/remakes and book adaptations like Ebert mentioned.

Edit: Wouldn't mind book adaptations if they picked good books (aka more Sci-Fi), not bottom of the barrel garbage like Twilight.

Ebert is a clown.

That said, he gets it right occasionally, just so long as the medium isn't new and confusing to him and his obliviously cliche old man syndrome.

He's been solid gold ever since Memento. Only people are just now realizing it.

It continues to disgust amaze me how many people I know haven't ever seen that movie.

The movie was awesome, one of the best I've seen in years. One thing bothers me, though.

I understand why the second dream becomes weightless; its because of the van in free fall in the first dream. But why, then, does the weightlessness of the second dream not affect the gravity or conditions of the third dream?

I don't know what "Lehesu" is talking about. What kind of name is "Lehesu" anyways? I know I'm a guy that has been called Smapdey for the past ten years, and I'm just trying to be a dick, but seriously, get a new name. I'll use the mod controls to change it for you. Wait, this gives me an idea for a thread.

It was great for a debut on a tiny budget, but Memento was the real break-out effort, imo.

What kind of name is "Lehesu" anyways?

Google has revealed to me that it comes from an incredibly obscure Star Wars character, and this is very informative for the rest of us here, because it demonstrates what a massive, throbbing geek he is.

Much better than my alias here, which was picked purely by random because I didn't really give a shit at the time and I just wanted to hurry up and make an account to see the softcore porn as an ActionTrip Plus member.

I never actually expected to start talking at people on AT.

The movie was indeed pretty awesome, especially DAT ENDING...

My sudo-answer to the question above:
I think it has to deal with who's "dream" they're actually in. So the first level or dream is in the mind of that Indian Chemist, while the second level is in Arthur's mind. I remember them talking about free fall at one point while teaching the girl too, but now forget the details. Must have something to do with the free fall of the van only affecting Arthur's concept of the dream and not having his dream free fall state change Fischers perception (And thus his dream).

My question:
So how do Cobb and Saito get out of that super-deep dream state anyways? Did Cobb have to keep going deeper and deeper to find Saito (Taking like 20 or 30 years?). And when he did....did they just shoot themselves in the head?

Figured it would be obscure enough to not bother remembering a bazillion different handles. Of course, the same google search reveals to me that I am not the only one to reach that conclusion.

Brilliant film for sure. Christopher Nolan ftw. I'm convinced anything he touches will be pure gold.

Yeah they shoot themselves. They allude to that through how Hobb got out of the dream with Mal and also how Saito picked up the gun at the table before talking about getting old. Cobb didn't need to go any deeper though, because when Mal was killed, they were already at the deepest state - right next to the subconscious level.

Cobb didn't need to go any deeper though, because when Mal was killed, they were already at the deepest state - right next to the subconscious level.

Cobb was able to go after Saito because it was all part of the same dream limbo world, since they were both inhabiting the same guy's dream.

As for how they both got out of it, in the scene in the limbo world right before they wake up, it ends with the camera zooming in on Saito's gun on the table, iirc. So yeah, it's implied that Cobb and Saito exited the limbo world by killing themselves (presumably Saito shot Cobb, and then shot himself).

There's a minor plot hole with that, however, since the whole reason they went into limbo in the first place is because they died in the other dream 'levels', and the sedative was too strong for death to wake them up.

I can only assume that dying once already in the limbo world was somehow an exception to that. Or maybe it's just a plot hole. Meh.

Let's not forget about DiCaprio, who has been solid fucking gold since The Aviator.

Here's a graphic that although the level numbers are incorrect, is kind of nice.

THE MOVIE WAS JUST PURE EPICNESS.

some theories stated that the whole process is a dream...which in a sense reflects the movie-making process.

the delusional dichotomy between reality and dream; consciousness and subconsciousness.

for those of u who havn't watched it...DONT MISS IT. its a total mind-f***.

Very enjoyable. From about half an hour in, it was really gripping. Comparable to Children of Men in how well it maintains suspense. Kind of a mindfuck, but I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of it all after leaving.

Neat prequel comic: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/inception-comic.html

And yeah, it's all very grounded and explained despite being like 4 dreams within dreams.

Just saw the movie!
Loved every minute of it! My only problem was Ken Watanabe's engrish, I couldn't understand what he was saying most of the time, shoulda subbed every line. :P

Also, at the very end, what do you guys think of the spinning top? :D Was nice of the director to cut it off like that, everyone in the theater said "Ohhh!!!"

^^
The spinning top is an interesting topic. The spinning top could equally mean both situations. One is that the top began to wobble in the end (which it did'nt in Cobb's wife's limbo). This indicates that the ending is not a dream. But on the contrary, the children are not only of the same age from Cobb's memory but are also wearing the same clothes. This indicates that he is still in the dream. Also remember that Cobb said that the top spins forever in his wife's dream. He may be wrong that the behaviour of the top would mean anything in his dream. This changes the meaning of the film in a large way. The film has multiple meanings and I guess the director meant it to be so. It would take pages to explain all the different meanings and that is the beauty of the film. It provides a unique experience on every viewing as you realize some new meaning that you did not notice on the previous viewing.
