I've gotten re-acquainted with some friends from high school. We are all into music to varying degrees. After high school, we had a band in 1999 but broke up in 2000. We played out about 12 or so times - we were just starting to get accepted by the local bars. Covering tunes from God Smack, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Filter, Tool, Bush, etc. Hard rock and alternative. I switched between playing bass and electric guitar.
Now we're actually trying to write some original material. I've got recording equipment in my basement and a full drum kit. My drummer friend is the only one of us that has been in the music scene this whole time. He's been in several bands and made a decent living. He's kind of the lynch pin to our assemblage. It really helps having a pro-level drummer.
I've been trying to learn the drums but it's challenging. I'm using Audacity recording software and it's working out pretty nice. We've got one song almost complete and about 6 other songs mapped out.
I turned 40 this year and it's getting to the point where being with old friends really is important. I know several guys I work with that are jealous since they've lost touch with their high school buddies and don't have time for "getting together with the guys". I've let them listen to some of our songs and they think we've got potential.
Don't know where this is headed but it's really a blast.
