This thread will probably get lost in the flood of spammy goodness, but if you perhaps stumble across it mistakenly thinking that I'm not a bot, let's have a little different discussion about religion.

Now, I'm not religious at all, but I have a little hypothetical question:

What would happen if scientists actually discover that god does exist. What happens when they find a way to communicate to him/her/it and eventually find a way to harness the "spiritual" power of the universe in everyday applications...

My own theory is that we would eventually find a way to overrun, overpopulate and pollute heaven (or whatever), corrupt the citizens of hell (or whatever), and eventually kill god in any of his/her/its forms.

What do you think?

(Please. This is not a serious debate about religion, there's already enough threads about that.)

If that were the case, I suppose scientists and the religious would stop fighting. Somehow, I think that if there IS some sort of "God," it's nothing like the ones religious-types believe in.

I came across this on Reddit a while back and it blew my mind. Just imagine... (http://i.imgur.com/6QBGU.jpg)

I think it is human nature in general to love and cherish each other when we have abundant resource. So, once we have access to god's power, we could solve many problems such as hunger and disease, and we should be able to all live in peace. Technology will bring us wonders such as interstellar travel and we will populate many other planets. Realizing the existence of a supreme being will give us a stronger sense of morality and justice, and life will be spend pursuing the well-being of our own spirituality and mental capacity, and to build a better society everywhere.

Damn, that was awesome.

Iced, that was pretty neat. As for Farsimon's question, we'd probably squander it, if we could harness the power of the spiritual. Also, I really don't think it would really resolve anything in terms of human division. We'd argue over the 'right' way to interpret the god, what rules it wanted, etc, ad infinitum.

Well, Yian, I can't claim to be building better societies everywhere, but I think I've been pretty well engaged in practicing the balance of that statement. In a decidedly human way, of course.

Now, if I correctly understand the premise farsimon has suggested, namely, Man gaining the "spiritual power" (?) of God, I'd say that things would undoubtedly get fouled-up, and pretty quickly, being the flawed and imperfect beings we are.

I suppose we would need to progress to the same level as God in order to avoid that outcome. I, personally, don't accept the concept of multiple deities as being logical, much less possible, despite whatever the competency of the scientists involved. Going further, I'd also offer that these clever scientists wouldn't be capable of advancing any further than God might allow. (Remember, it is a given in this excercise that God exists.) So, I'd recommend that these scientists probably shouldn't quit their current gigs for this endeavour.
