Will a virus scan make your computer run slow? I don't know if it's coincidence or what, but it seems like ever since I installed the virus scan, my computer runs slow. And whenever I go online a message pops up that says something like internet server has detected a problem and needs to shut down.

I uninstalled it. Seemed to work. Which Norton would you recommend? Just a plain virus scan or one that does multiple things?

Here's something I didn't know about Norton or McAfee. They don't write a virus fix until 20,000 people have it. That's kinda reassuring.

i don't think it would make your computer slow at all. i think you were feelin nutty and enabled background scanning (which WILL slow your computer down). getting norton will do the same thing if you enable background scanning.......

OK, Backgroundscan explains the slowness. Can you explain the "internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message that would pop up every 5-10 minutes?
