Well, I guess the first question that needs to be asked is whether it's warez or not. I don't know you, so don't assume that I think you're a pirate. It's simply a fact that those kind of things happen.

Hello Gwyn,
I had that problem too, and I had to use the Sims Eraser (included in the SuperStar files) to erase the lot and re-install the whole series again. (Always go oldest to newest)
Don't try to just delete the whole lot manually though!! Use the eraser, because if you don't, Livin' Large won't install. I know. It bites. But the other good thing about the eraser is that it won't delete all your downloads that way either. (New skins and your saved games and lots etc)
I downloaded the new Direct X 9.0 as well as you did, but things are still not satisfactory.
Now I can get into the game for sure, but the damn thing crashes all the time. I find that I have to be very careful and keep clicking "Save" all through the game (at crucial moments such as new skill obtained etc)
I have contacted EA about this, but they are useless. I may as well have asked the bloody cat.
I have seen a lot of comments on here about Sims (mostly negative) and I think overall, the idea for the game is fine, but as one person pointed out, it's the manufacturers that are at fault.
They quickly rush their "new idea" and extension out onto the market without first ironing out all the flaws (a bit like Gates did with Windows) and it is damn well annoying.
If I do find any source of a patch for this problem, I will post it for you, as I have already written a nasty letter to EA about their lack of help for such a large problem. (I wonder how many have been sent back?)
Good luck

I'm guessing that you have an older 3d card like a geforce 2 gts or older ?
Forget what EA states to get the latest drivers, I tried that too, and it didn't work, so I got the detonator 3 drivers, not the detonator 4 which are out now. Loaded them up, and away the game flew. It seems that nvidia, has been messing up excause me "optimized" their drivers so that the unidriver shit has gone straight to hell. So try one of the older 3d drivers, and it'll solve your problem for sure. I have two machines 1x win9x with a geforce2 gts, and that came out with the same problem as you decribe, with detonator 4 drivers, even when it ran win xp pro. My other machine running xp and geforce 3 with detonator 4 drivers run the game fine.

Thanks very much for your help. My 3D is a couple of years old, but I will do a search on that driver for mine.
I'm glad that your games are now working for you, it's so annoying when you spend money on the newest product and all kinds of problems show up.
Thanks again, and I will post my results here.
