Ok, I have a decent cable modem. I usually have around 150-300 ping. But I've entered some games recently where I got 888? Is this because of my modem, or something completely different?

hey, maybe that game was on a crappy server, or it it too far from where you were at.

Or, there might have been somebody else with absurdly high ping. I've seen somebody come on BF1942 servers with like 1500 ping or something, and everybody else's jumps about three hundred points. Ugh.

no, another person's ping DOES NOT AFFECT YOURS. the reason u might think such is that the lag is on the server-side, and therefore all clients feel affected. but client-side lag has nothing to do with the lag of others. common misconception, but the server sends data to everybody whether or not one of the players respond with a good ping.

Mus be the 56kers. We should ban 56kers from any online gaming. I never play a single game when using a dial-up; didn't want to ruin anyone's fun.

oh that note......i tend to cut 56k'ers some slack, seein how 85% of the internet population fall into that catagory.....

besides, they're fun to watch, boucin around the map and all :D

I had a friend named Mikey that's computer was crappy on top of lousy ping. He would hop around the map magically, killing us by only sending us half of all his movement information. He would magically stop moving, we would unload every bullet he had into him, then he would die and he would start jumping around the map again. We eventually had to stop playing with him.

Hahaha yeah that "lagbouncing" is cool! I once entered a Q3 1on1 map with a clan leader. the only available gun was the rail gun. Allthough I bounced harder and further than a ADHD dude on multiple XTC pills I stil didn't stand a chance! Damn that guy was good!
