Routers faster or not?

I was just talking with my friend...and he told me that after he bout a router his speed increased from 10mbps to 100mbps is that possible or is that bastard lying to me again?

he thinks it increased because the speed on his internal network (between the router and his computer, along with any other connected computers in his house) is 100mbps. his connection to his isp is still 10mbps. which doesn't necessarily mean his connection is even 10mbps. does he even know what mbps stands for?

there shouldn't be any noticible difference in connection speed with a good router.

the only speed that increased was the connection between the router and his computer. a router IS NOT A HUB :rolleyes:

furthermore, seein as he sounds like he knows less than shit (a valid assumtion, no?), his internet connection was most probably NOT 10mpbs anyway (i'd say 3 tops). the only difference he should notice is that his LAN connection dialogue suddenly says 100mbps.

Well the router wouldn't increase/decrease speed, But the service might, Somtimes my internet goes really slow and then sometimes it goes really fast; Just depends on how much attention the server connector wants to pay attention:rolleyes:

There is also a big difference between
- a router
- a switch
- a hub
