Linux + Windows = Lindows ?!?! what the fuck is this!

no, it's Linux + some lame ass attempt at cleaning up WINE = Lindows. WINE is what they use to expand limited windows application compatibility onto OSes like Unix and Linux. an EXTREMELY messed up shit piece of code, at the moment.

So Lindows is worse stabillitywise than Linux Mandrake or RedHat? I have a Mandrake system here but I never use it because everything that I normally do with computers becomes a pain in the ass with Linux. But I would think that a Linux system capable of doing Windows things would be theroeticly at least, pretty decent.

heh, no. you're better off sticking with redhat (i see most pros prefer mandrake or SuSe. those who can't quit coding prefer debian).

Sushi, can you tell me why this lindows is so bad? I mean, the concept sounds cool but you guys seemed to be very negative about this thing... any links that gives details would do, too... thanks!:D

first of all, no one's buyin it (v4.0 now.....). second, i've used it. almost as unstable as an untweaked winME. as for the feature it TRIES to promise, i want you to check out the special FAQ they published, and you'll instantly get a sense of how far they are from meeting compatibility with windows:

btw, the first one costed 99$, NOBODY even heard of the release of the next two versions, and the price is now 60$ for 4.0. just a kinda funny progression to me.......

I like the concept. Any viable alternative to Windows has my blessing, but it wouldn't appear that this would qualify as "viable."

The better approach is just running straight-up Linux and using a hard-coded Linux port of a Windows app. (But try and find 'em.)

I saw Heavy Gear II for Linux running on a Mandrake rig about a year ago at a PC expo. It was identical in every respect to the PC version as far as I could see. It was on a 550MHz PIII as I recall, and it was very, very smooth.

Isn't Dell selling Linux PC now? Those people out there who can't fix their own mess will love those PC with "stability". IMO, Linux is great if you're hosting a server, but a desktop PC with Linux.... Doesn't it look like chopping a melon with a baseball bat?
