msmsgs.exe wont go away...

I can't believe this...!!!! This msmsgs.exe is obviously that MS Messanger. It is hugging my resource and it won't disappear! I can open up the task manager and kill it but it will just come back everytime I restart my computer! It is not killing my speed or anything but it's just annoying! Anyone knows how I can disable it?

i don't suppose you've tried msconfig? well, if u have, that doesn't work :)

just end that process first then rename the folder. folder is C:\Program Files\Messenger

i just put a 1 infront of Messenger. problem solved.

lol, an easier way would of been to just open MSN Messenger and turn off auto startup in the options menu....O_o

as far as i know (i've been using trillian, so i don't know much) it still runs, but it doesn't appear on the taskbar. in order to make it stop completely, u need to trick it.

It runs at the background and I found no way to stop it from being initiated at each startup. I disabled it from it's options, from my e-mail programs, from msconfigs, with no luck.

Argh that dumb program is so annoying :mad: M$ puts it on your comp and you can't uninstall it from the Add/Remove window ARGH!!

I know! That's why people prefer AIM! You have very much the complete control over AIM while this m-shit-msg.exe stuff eats your ram as snack... well, I guess peopole with LOTS of memory never worry about this kind of stuff.

well correct me if i am wrong here but to the best of my knowledge msmsgs.exe is not really MSN Messenger but Windows messenger which is almost similar to msn messenger but has some features disabled...even i had it for a while and i know it got irritating to have both windows messenger and msn messenger runnin at same time..luckily i had no issues deleting it...

firstly there was no application called windows messenger in my add/remove programs panel so what i did was did a search for msmsgs.exe and it appeared in ProgramFiles/Messenger folder...i just Shift+Del that folder n whooosh it was gone forever...

then i downloaded the latest MSN Messenger 6.0 (rocks ass esp with those cool background and display pictures) and i founf out that the process is called msnmsgr.exe and now i am very much happy with msn 6.0 as AIM is not feasible for me cos i dont stay in america..ppl here in my country either use icq a lot or msn ...i use both to keep in touch with friends...

Long tiome no see!! :D :D How's Catalyst 3.6? Is it working out well? I haven't updated yet.

And what kind of ram do you have? DDR, I'm sure, but at what speed? I have PC3200 (400Mhz bus) with CL 2.5, and.... 1 GB. I repeated, 1 GB! Need I say more? :D :D

But I don't have DSL connection...!! :( hehehe.....

catalyst is working out fne ...its got awesme extra display features and wt it also does is upgrades yr drivers form 6.xx to 7.91 ...i have had no issues with any games with the catalyst installed... get it..and oh..get yr DSL connection first..or ull curse me for tht 16 mb download :)
