Console gaming on a computer monitor?

I would really like to get a console (haven't decides which one yet), but I don't have a TV anywhere near where I like to play games. I have a pretty decent PC monitor though is there anyway I can hook up a console to my monitor? If so what kindof adapter do I need to do this? Would my image quallity be any better than a TV?

One way is to get an ATI All-In-Wonder graphics card. These are standard 7500/8500/9700 series gfx cards with S-video and component inputs in them that you can attach your console to.

Or you can a straight S-Video to VGA adapter, at a sight like this one:

You can simply get some emulators for your console games and make them run in PC. The image quality will look very bad, though, because console games image quality are bad, but people don't see it on TV because TVs are blurry and low-res. With monitor, all the bad things in console are exposed.

I hooked my brothers mates PS2 to my GF4 myvivo card and it wasn't too good quality wise but it wouldn't get much better on tv.

As for emulators I have never found one that works.

Hell I've tried playing GTA3 after playing it on my comptuer and my eyes started bleeding. It was on a pretty decent TV too. I also tried to play Rallisport challenge on the xbox and i couldnt see where the hell i was going. Is there no way to make the image crisp?

There's a sharpen edges filter (like the one in photoshop) on the software that came with my video card, but it fucks up because my computer deosn't have the cpu power to run it.

What about that thing from Viewsonic does anyone know how well it performs? I would think it would look better on a monitor than on a TV because the 640x 480 resolution would be on a much smaller space.

I was playing Ghost Recon onetime on Xbox, while future man was playing it on his pc, we were comparing the image quality and it was so much haggerd on the console. btw you have to get an advanced av pack for the xbox to play higher res games that support the higher res.
