I wrote this for a friend on another forums a whlie back. Here you go.

i'm assuming you're using photoshop

make a large (at least 800x600) high quality jpg/psd/etc. of a pixel checkerboard. (btw, i'll call the pixel checkerboard a Check) What you do is make a four by four thing, and put:
pixel blank pixel blank
blank pixel blank pixel

and just copy paste it a few times, combining layers (Ctrl+E), copy pasting more at a time, etc.

When you have that, take the image you want to hide, copy+paste the Check on top of the image. It should make a new layer. Then take the magic wand, Turn the "Contiguous" option off (right underneath View, Window, Help), and select a black pixel. Every single black pixel on the Check will be selected. When it's selected, delete the layer with the Check, and push Delete.

After that, push Ctrl+A, copy paste that on top of the main image, and mess around with Saturation, Contrast, and Brightness of BOTH layers.

When you're done, check it out with IE, and if it hides the wrong image, just flip the image horizontally. If it still doesn't do it, use the Single Row Select Tool thingie (hold left click on the Box Select Tool), click on the last row (of either side), right click inside the area where it's selected, choose "Select Inverse", then Image>Crop Image, and it should work perfectly

So basically this is the same technique as I posted here (http://www.atrip.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1171&perpage=20&pagenumber=2)...just a bit different in small details. Aghh..Photoshop truly amazing field of creativity.

Ughhh come on its easier than that  First you make a pattern as showed below. Than edit > define pattern. And than just use pattern stamp tool (ctrl+e) to make as big of a checkerboard as you want.

It ended up to have 55 layers. By the time it gets big enough and I have to merge them, I feel bad... All the layers I have created now becomes one.... :( I think RADiator's define pattern trick will do faster.

... :p

...anyways, this is what I got. I guess it is not too bad for the first time:
