Site is keeping me too busy lately plus work (ughhh). But I use Maya (when I use it). Nice models BTW. But you might want to smooth the jaggies up a bit the second render looks a bit chunky. Other than that good work man! Keep it up. Are you planning on implementing the model somewhere or is it just a random model?

Most of I know are either making some abstract "whatever" or way to complex for me(with hair and skin tones etc).

This is what they are using for HL2. From what I have seen it is pretty good but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Valve is trying to convince softimage to release a free version (like gmax is a free version of 3d studio max) for the mod community.

Believe me you will find nothing but disappointment on Kazaa. There are some products that are being free distributed. Take Maya for instance. Its professional it comes with a lot of materials to get you started and most importantly it’s FREE. Here is the link:

hmmm never knew there was a free version of maya.

anyhoo here's some more:
- gmax (http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/) is a free version of 3d studio max.

- milkshape (http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/) is another popular 3d modeler.

- blender (http://www.blender3d.com/), don't know much about this one.

What technique are you using for modelling? Looks good so far.

Th3 ProphetMan
August 24th, 2003, 10:39 AM
i use low poly boxes and spheres which i deform and then apply a mesh soften modifier, i don't know how is that called in english exactly. in spanish is Suavizar Malla.

in the pic, the first mesh is the softened one. 4 itinerations.

the second is the real sphere which i am modeling with tools like extrude. :p

the resulting mesh is quite polished.
textures are metal with reflections and difuse map for the logo on the bike cover

metal with reflections
this is just that i was trying the material type you told me the other day :D

RAD
August 24th, 2003, 10:53 AM
The technique is box modelling. The metal looks good too (all though I was also using a custom image for reflection). All in all good work so far, keep it up.

there a lot of panels and options there.. hehe it's like a labyrinth :D Its suppose to be BETTER, not faster. I mean what do you think, it calculates every ray, every shadow separately, and it takes time. You can find the manual in additional help for reference. And the antialiasing can be fixed in the settings. Its purpose is to create detailed illumination and shadow calculations. So you should use it only if you want to make something to look realistic. But for the project you’re working on right now (the bike) you should use the default renderer.

Calm down cr3am, they all fake ok? Now you’re happy? :) Oh and prophet about antialliasing. Its off by default, you have to change it by increasing the values in the min, max sample checkbox (try min: 1 max: 2). I don’t remember where exactly is this function located, just look around I’m sure you'll find it. Oh and be careful with this settings. Antialliasing means high-pressure, high pressure means SLOW computing.

I'm not sure now whether that Modena is fake or not but i can tell you that it has some strange things in it. Like the edge of the windscreen into the roof. It looks like it has this old Alfa Romeo chrome kinda look, which a modena doesn't have. Also some angles and sizes don't seem to be correct.

My conclusion would be fake.

Hi
First of all i didn't make this model..
here there are some pics i took from a BMZ Z3. I found it as one of the example models that came on the program MAD-FX (http://www.mad-fx.com), a 3D editing tool with really great real time rendering. It uses cubemaps, pixel and vertex shaders, and so on. No render engine, but it's kind of cool the demo is quite limited though, you can only run it 20 times and then it's over :D

err..shadow, i think if you're modeling a bike which is in fact made of "many pieces" it's normal to use many pieces (or meshes) :) i feel more like its kinda difficult making this with a single mesh, man... :D

Edit:

Not exactly. You can model a bike, a human body or any other object using only one primitive. It all depends on the artist really.

Th3 ProphetMan
September 23rd, 2003, 05:06 PM
it can be done, but if the real bike is made of several pieces then it's normal to do it the same way i think... any way i think a bke wouldn't look any good modeled from a single primitive, think or the wheels how do you animate it when the wheels are detached on the rest of the chassis? :D anyways, this bike is meant for vice city, and vice city needs several meshes!!! lol

Im having trouble with making the bullets, maybe you guys can help.
This tutorial isnt very detailed, so I figured you might be able to clear up some questions I have.
All(Well most...) the things I did below are form the tutorial.
http://gamedesign.4players.de:1026/LS/Tub/Others/Tut2/ReflectionE.htm

First I draw the basic shape with the lines, I think Im doing it right, but please correct me if Im doing it wrong.
I not quite sure what window Im supposed to draw the lines in, the tutorial doesnt say.
I draw mine in the front panel.
http://www.angelfire.com/sk3/biohazard/bullethelp/first.JPG

Second I apply the "Lathe" modifier to both the lines, and I get this:
http://www.angelfire.com/sk3/biohazard/bullethelp/second.jpg
Sure theres some problems but I havent hit "max" yet, and thats when the real problem occurs.

Third this is where I'm having problems, when I hit "max" the bullet grows and the top opens up, it tells you to do weld to fix this.
But my bullet opens up way more then in the tutorial and the weld looks horrible, please tell me what Im doing wrong and how I can fix it.http://www.angelfire.com/sk3/biohazard/bullethelp/third.jpg

RAD, I like the guns, there cool. Dont really have ideas on the shape, but I definatly thing they need to be black.

Well now that I think about it I do have some things to say about the shape.

First thing is the handle, looks kinda rigid. I think if you smoothed it out a little it would look better, including the side part. Maybe its just that one angle(see pic below).

Second, from what I can see in the picture, is that the trigger looks to wide. Again that could be just the angle in the picture. But it definatly looks to big in the picture.

Actually I have just fixed the handle issue. I was thinking about making the trigger a bit thinner but I guess I just needed a perspective to realize it. Anyway thanks for feedback.

I read a tutorial on UV Maping and it almost made my brain explode. Man, I have a long road ahead of me.

Ok I adressed every issue and bumped the polycount to 1200. Next step is naturally map it and apply texture. I'll post some pics when I'm finished.

to clarify something. are you asking us what we think you should edit on the gun itself or its texture when you do one?

i think i'll have to take a lighting tutorial but it's ok for now. there are a couple of shadows to be fixed here and there but i think the rest its quite well. i have also blurred a bit them, and the clock needs work. any suggestions?

the problem with the first texture is the mosaic effect, its a repeated patern all along the floor.. the problem with second one is i don't like it enough... although i'm thinking of adding a plain simetry reflection, that could improve the second.

and heres the last pic for today...

i ve also been working on a bed. maybe next room will be the bedroom although i have to put some more pictures and some plants in the hall.

here's the door maybe i make something more to it.
