alright, i got the ati radeon 9700 pro. downloaded some of the half life 2 bink videos. i ran one of them once, it worked fine, but when i try to run the others, the thing opens, i can hear sound, but i can't see the picture, all i see is a little black box at the top of my screen. Anyone else having this problem? in win xp.

wat's the deal with these bink videos. are they realtime 3d demos or are they insanely high quality mpegs? do they demonstrate the capabilities of your video card?

They are just extremley high quality videos. The bink format is very good.

just curious. I know the game Mafia uses bink video, but in the cutscenes, are those done in bink video format or are they rendered by your 3d card? I have a feeling their realtime rendered.

Yep, most of the cut scenes are rendered with your game engines, but Bink video doesnt necessary have to be in-game looking. They can slam a 640x480 video at the intro of the game, but still use Bink format. It's up to the developer how to use them.

As far as I know Bink is pre-rendered. But it's also very versatile. Blizzard used to work a lot with bink until they started using REALLY high quality DIVX cutscenes (WC3 for instance).....aaah man sweeet shit!....DIVX...ggaaaaggh
