the best idea would be to keep nvidia vs ati the same as it is now cuz that makes more competition to make a move and release products earlier than supposed to be, plus ...who wants to choose by only one gfx company. what about sis, and trident, and all the other companies...competition is healthy. really dood.. if they team up.. even if they don't raise the prices.. they'd just be slow on technological developments; cuz they don't have any competition. so every year, you'll get a MHZ bump instead of another rendering pipeline.. or a new architechture.

Nvidia bought out 3dfx...god that was a sad tale, 3dfx was god, and NVIDIA basically took over! Inherited all their technologies which make their cards better today. Of course some bounced off their jobs and went to work for ati, because they knew ati needed help.

My point is, why would you want ATI to merge with NVIDIA, if NVIDIA has already inherited 3dfx tech? NVIDIA already has support! ATI is the one that needs support! needs better stuff under their wing, before R300 chipset came ATI was lacking badly does anyone remember that? now NVIDIA cant even release their new card cuz they got struck with the confusion of this petty company releasing an amazing card!

Matt, everyone knows that Taiwanese screwed up big time so it wasn't really all nVidia's fault (nuke Taiwan...) but look, nVidia now lets IBM make some shit for them, too. I believe as soon as all the facility is mature, IBM will become the major one and Taiwanese will be only with ATI. IBM will need some time to start making .13 micron but they definitely have the resource to pull it through.

I think cr3am's point is that with nVidia driver's stability and ATI's raw power, we make a perfect card out of that combo.

no thats not that great actually...... its weak just used if u dont have much memory bandwidth such as the pahreliea doesnt...bad card all around except for games that are out now...wont be good for games like doom 3 and such... peace out

have u seen the 16x FAA? it only anti-aliases what's neccessary; the edges. AF can sharpen the rest. it's awesome technology, and matrox gives by far the best IQ i've seen. and memory bandwidth....it has a 256bit wide memory bus and about 18gig/sec bandwidth. the geforce FX has around 16, and even the 9700pro only has about 19-20 (they all use compression technology, so lets not speak of "effective bandwidth"). it's a good card, but a disappointment as far as gamers go. i've found a comparison here:

and it's rather evident to my point. keep in mind it was produced to compete with the GF4, NOT with a 9700pro.
