In regards to "Odm's" Energy thread, I must say that over population is the cause to most our earthly problems, Although it might seem hard to accept, it is the truth, there is just not enough resources for all these people. We keep trying to compensate by finding more sources, although it is not going to help, there are just to many people, isn't this why they invented birth control? Look into some of the third world countries, we send money to them to support there children, although wouldn't it be more logical to simply use this money to promote birth control in there countries? Because one day we will still be sending this money to them and then the monthly fee will grow higher and higher, until we all just stop paying them and all there children die; Do you see what I am trying to get through?

Resources will be contained and cloned before it gets critical on our survival. That's my guess. I read Discover alot, and some of the strides human beings make are amazing. We might even find another planet full of resources before it gets out of control. I can be a skeptic.
The world is only overpopulated where you stand. If we spread out the population (which will never happen), we'll feel alot better about the situation. I feared for the ozone for awhile, but people are obviously being better about pollution these days. The ozone is actually repairing itself.
This is just my opinion. I'm not extremely educated on the the resource/consumer ratio. But I do believe in chaos theory. And if that tells us anything, answers will present themselves eventually, and we'll use them to find a way to survive.
Ok, unless a HUGE meteor splits our planet in half sometime soon, we'll find a way. Some things we just can't avoid.

There is a slight possibility that we could sustain an atmosphere on another planet, although this would take quite some time to do. Just think “The earth empire” Maybe some day we could take a bunch of planets and link them with giant metal tubes, although this would require harvesting asteroids and comets, and about 9000 years better technology.

We don't have a population problem on this planet yet.. one or two countries do but not all, to tell the truth that is why there are certain forms of crowd control out there that will be around for a while until something meaner comes along.. Aids, Cancer, Cigarettes and other such agents kill thousands each year.. there are others that are way worst such as the Ebola virus but they are to uncontrollable to be even set loose.. I don't see how science can create a plane that absorbs radar and other such technological feats but yet can't finid a simple cure for a virus? Bullocks, it's all just one form of crowd control, think about the millions that die from simple forms of diseases each year and then think about how over populated this world would be today if a form of crowd control wasn't used in some form.

Here, in South Africa, there is so much space its scary. The main places with population problems are europe and the odd major city, everywhere else is fine.

I will agree with you on the sending money to 3rd world countries as being a waste. And I think trying to educate them on birth controll is a waste of time as well. We should just remove all support to those countries, wipe out whatever debt they owe and let them be. If you look back to before colonists arrived, they didn't starve and have huge problems, so we should just send them back to those self suficient days and let them make what they can of it and if they completely die out, well fuck it, I dont really care, sue me.

I really agree, I just don’t want to be mean by saying “Just let them find out” because I would think that I would be deeply ridiculed and maybe even banned, although that is probably the best way, just let them find out on themselves.

This is how I see it: One day, the human population will fuck itself entirely. Will I be alive during that time period? No. Therefor, I really don't care. :D As for "Saving the planet for future generations" Do you REALLY care if your grandsons grandaughters grandaughters grandsons grandaughter grandsons gransons gransons grandaugters grandson dies? This is why I would have LOVED to live in the 1500's or the 350's (Medievil Times, Roman Times). You ask a Roman what smog is and they will send you to the Colosseum.

Probably not the 350s. You'd face a lot bigger risks than smog, I'll tell you that. Attila was coming. And, in eighteen years, you'd get a first person look at Valens getting trounced at Adrianople.
[edit] Now, 69 AD, now there was a year. If you look past the sexual references I'm sure someone will make, and the entire "Year of 4 Emperors" bloodshed, that's when my fella Vespasian came to power. Yay for Vespasian! First man to tax urine!

Should have taught them birth control, but not taught them to deal with disease. Problem solved.

Guys, there won't be a Malthusian disaster anytime soon. The birthrate is slowing in most places, and with diseases in Africa, they will be going down soon too. The problem with teaching birth control is that Bush doesn't like it. Therefore, no money for it.
The problem, however, isn't too many people. It's too unevenly distributed people. You have China on one hand, and you have Montana or, as Mr Bored says, South Africa on the other. They need to balance those out. If not, nature balances them for you--thus the entire Black Plague thing back in the day.

Seriously, if a group of people cant stop fucking long enough to realise that 50 kids is going to be a problem and they aren't going to be able to feed them all, then they deserve to fade out of existance and be awarded a Darwin award. STOP FUCKING AND GO PLANT SOME CROP YOU LAZY MOTHER FUCKERS. *cough* that felt good. If they dont know how or cant figure it out then fuckem.
The reason I am all out of sympathy for these people is probably the media's fault. If I see one more advert or program where they show 50 crying babies that are as thin as a rake I'm going to kill myself or the nearest person.
