the 80x80 limit seems a little bit too small... i say that you could try at least a 100x100 limit.
what do you think?

I'm a big 80 X 80 fan
I get tired of waiting for a million huge avatars to download even on a T1.
But of course I like the old BBS systems. Now these new fangled contraptions are messing things up /end old fogey talk

I think 80x80 is just fine and dandy, not that I would complain if the dimensions limit were to be increased though...

80x80 is already too big. I say we disable avatars.

nah... avatars are important, it gives a separate feel to the forums
also, i think 80x80 is a good size, cuz imagine loading a page with twenty 100x100 pics... it might even get up to the MBs

Avatars are fine, they're small and easy to make.
I would like to ask that we get rid of the large annoying pictures in the sigs, they're only funny after a few times, and in the case of Absent, never funny.

ok this is what you need to do. Simple and idiot-proof so no problem to be asked... You might know some of them already but... oh, well, let's start:
(1) Open the image you want to edit in photoshop...
(2) Go to Image menu (the third one from the left)
(3) Now there is an option called image size, see it? It's right there!
(4) Now you should see two parts in there, each has two drop-down menu for options. See the pixel dimensions, the one that has length and width.
(5)Now there are two ways of doing it. By changing the amount of pixels at each dimension, you shrink or enlarge an image. The maximum size for our avatar is... what.. 80x80? Okay. Go to either length or width, change it to 80, then see what happens. If length doesn't work (such as gives you a width that's longer than 80), just try width.
(6) Now, here is another way. If you want to have a square avatar, put 80 in both length and width. But before you do that, you have to uncheck the box that says "Constrain the proportions." It is at the bottom of the dialog. Now both the length and the width of your picture will be at 80, gives you an 80x80 image.
(7) If you don'y like certain part of the image, crop them, then repeat the same steps.
(8) Don't forget to select "save as..." instead of "save". So you will still have your original image, with the new one you just made being saved as a new file... Hahaha I know you already know this. I'm just playing with you :p.
Hope it helps!
