I was thinking to myself, and there is such an odd thing going on with animals, for example people love their farm animals, yet they eat them. And also someone would think It normal to eat a pig although it would be blasphemy to eat a dog, although humans did train dogs as pets, well you get my point eh?

wow dude relax. I understand that some animals are considered pets (with a P mind you;)) and others as food. But what can I say about it? It all has to do with culture. Some cultures think it's ok some don't, what can you change about it?

asian people eat cats and dogs (in asia)
but its food there, not pets. I guess it just depends on the culture

Culture is exactly it...
its cheaper to farm, if you will, dogs and cats because they are smaller animals. There is not much room in other countries for huge farms (like out here in Nebraska) and gigantic 1 ton cows. Notice how they farm chickens tho? they're small animals...so its easier, and cheaper. And of course in Iraq, they have cows as pets, so why would u kill ur pets, thats why they kill our dogs and cats and eat them, to start a war (nah jk.)
Besides, the meat is a specialty. It tastes better than cow...I mean reallly...you've all had duck right? Much better than cow. Pork has got to be the best tho.

I think you'd like Peter Singer, ihateyou, if you haven't looked into him already. You and he seem to have some of the same ideas.
The thing is, though, like the cow or pig vs. dog thing. Dogs are more useful alive, because they can provide companionship and guard things and all that, while cows are best used as providers of food, though milk or meat. Dogs are less meaty than pigs. So, we eat the pig. Same with chickens vs. cats.
And, cats are a lot cuter than chickens.:)

would you eat a donkey.. NO.. but you do take it out for carrying goods and such..
similarly, would u eat a dog.. NO..
we here in my country eat things that are permitted in our religion and hence are now part of our culture.. and that means that we cant eat pork!.. i hate the smell anyways so WhoGivesARatsAss..
similarly indians pray to cows (ok this is hilarious i know) and almost all the time eat vegis but we eat cows for breakfast!
mostly what we eat here is goat and chicken..
sorry no snakes, porks, lizards, cats, dogs for us.. the thought of it makes me puke.. damn!

I'd try dog if it was a good restaurant.
But you develope a love for your dog, your dog is special, almost like your son.
Here's a quote from Full Metal Jacket:
"This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine." <--- Think about that

Well, Asian people eat dogs and cats cause they are strange. A dog forms a bond with its human owner and thats why they have become very good pets over time. Along time ago man used to use dogs for hunting, so they were better as a tool than as food. No matter how hard you try you cant form a bond with a cow, its simply too fucking stupid, they are also really big and easy to manage, so they get eaten. Quite simple really. Having a cat farm would be extremely hard as cats have a tendency to run out into the road and get hit by cars. Cats also dont have a lot of meat on them. The number one reason why we ( western folk ) dont eat cats is probably because they look too cute and furry. The other species that we do not eat probably comes down to taste, I'm pretty sure almost every single species of animal has been bitten into by someone at some stage and the ones that we dont eat today are lucky because they taste like shit. They also probably dont yield enough meat and are hard to farm. Cows are ideal, they are really big, they only eat grass and they give milk and leather, not much is better than cows, if anything.

Yeah THEY eat dogs here. but Not me. never. When I was a kid I had a German Sheperd once, but it got run over by a truck and our neighbors bought the corpse from my dad and they ate my dog. I cried and I still get angry when I remember it. GRRR!!!!!!
I believe dogs are really "man's best friend."
Lol WGARA! I also saw on sum Ripley's show about an Indian temple dedicated to rats. Eeww!!! No offense to any Indians here but really, I fucking hate Rats!!!

asian ppl eat cats and dogs cuz they're so many in such a small country... so they have to use every ressource possible... food, terrain, wood and such... so to them... its just to survive

People don't eat coyotes because coyotes are kinda hard to catch, not worth the effort to get the little amout of meat off of them, and, for the most part, killed using poison or high-powered firearms.
Also, a lot of them appear in cultures that don't eat dog. Given their link, people would feel bad about eating them.
It all goes back to utility, though. Donkeys are good for carrying things, dogs are good for companionship, and chickens are good for eating.

Snakes are pretty tasty but they have lots of bones kind of like fish. Snakes also serve dual purpose since you can use thier skin for things...of course you wouldn't farm them except for the purposes of making anti venom, it's just the sort of thing you kill if it's trying to bite your foot, then eat because it would be a waste otherwise.
How about some other animals we haven't thought of? Goldfish for example. I really wonder how a gold fish would taste. Probably fishy i bet.

Well if you want, it might just work! Make sure you learn how to cure leather and also get lots of rats or mice for them to eat. Or you could have free range snakes living out in the desert...

Another reason we eat some animals is amount: there are millions of fish in the sea, they're not too hard to catch, and they're good for you. If there were only a few there wouldn't be much point. And we don't eat much bison, even though they're even better than cows (in terms of efficiency etc.), because they're endangered.
Oh and one reason Asians eat cats and dogs is because they're hungry (not all of them of course). If white people in the Middle Ages ate bark soup, I think dog would look really damn tasty to them.

True, I think that a dog might taste good right out of the blue, although I have never actually ate one therefore I don’t know.
