hey..i have a question...very important please help
in counterstrike, i am able to get about 100 fps when there are barely any people on the screen no matter what map, but as soon as more than 2 models go on the screen (players), my frame rate drops considerably to around 30 or sometimes lower depending on how many ppl there are on the screen. My system specs are in my sig and i was wondering if its my crappy pci 64mb sdram vid card or just how fast everyones goes. I mean cs is an old game, is it really that much of a graphics intensive game to make my framerate drop that much, i mean, my system other than my video card is very very good, the only think i can think of is my video card
please help...and check ur fps in the game by going into the console and typing "net_graph 3" minus the quotes... please help meeeee!...i am a cs junkie:confused:  :p

I suggest burning your cs disk and burying under 100 tons of concrete.

no doubt its your video card causing the slow down
CS isnt old...just the engine it uses is old. the Polys in the CS skins have go up every other version it seems. 1.6 will be no exception to that. the up'd pollys will take a toll on your vid card.

Even a Geforce 2 MX is enough to handle CS, so it really can't be your card's problem... Make sure it is not in OpenGL because it tends to run slower... but Direct3D is more unstable for CS. If you have to stick to OpenGL, use 800x600, higher ot lower than that it won't be able to keep the fps constant. It might be the ....connection? No matter what your speed is, if the player you play with has a slow speed then you are fucked.
Hope it helps! Usually if you have a 80 fps or something like that, you won't miss any headshots. But the connection is a big problem. Lag is the No.1 killer in CS.

well...is there a half life engine, someone told me that it uses the quake 1 engine, so this aint comin from mee, so...i was just wondering... oh well... i was just curious...
and it could have been true due to the fact that so many games use the quake engines because carmack is god...

Half Life engine is based loosely on the Quake II engine, f00!

...and Quake II engine differs a big deal from Quake I's engine: one of the reason Daikatana kept delaying... too busy to convert the old engine into the Quake II's when John Romero saw the shit in the E3 of that year and panicked!
...so, we might just say that CS uses Quake II's engine? Or because it is still "loosely based", We might just call it uses Half-Life's engine, since that was a mod of Half-Life afterall...

like others have said, your vid card is most likely NOT the problem. i played on a geforce 2 PRO (used to anyway), and the gf4 MX is comparable to an ultra. i'd say it has to be software (settings, and all that). maybe even drivers.

Half Life orignally started in the Quake1 Engine. I have the PCG Preview to prove it! But yes, HL is based on the Quake2 engine - WHY DO U THINK SOME OF THE CONSOLE COMMANDS ARE THE SAME HUH!?@?!@?*(L&#*(^@#------
anyhoo, its a crappy PCI video card. gee super big mystery of the PCI bottleneck. sell some of your ram and buy an AGP card. :p

nahh...i got a job...just too cheap and waiting for the ati radeon with ddr2 memory...so im tryin to stall myself for the best upcoming card out, but i hope its not buggy since no cards yet besides nv34 use ddr2...well...my hopes are high for that card and itd be sweet if they made it an all-in-wonder card...wow...dreams can come true though

I think you will need Cd-Key to play unless you used the "default" cd-key for all half-life series games...lol :p :p :p :p
