I know this person who has virus on her computer. It shuts down the computer or won't let her into certain things. It pops up as W32/Lovsan.worm.a (I think that is how it comes up) It won't delete or quarintine. Short of wiping the computer, how can she get rid of it?

that's the Blaster worm. there are other threads around here that will tell u how to get rid of it.
here's the symantec thing:
http://securityresponse1.symantec.com/sarc/sarc.nsf/html/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html
and i think this helps, although i've never gotten the worm, so i don't know:

once u are done with the removal tool.. it prompts for a microsoft update which is the only one that is required to remove the blaster.. i had it and did it the exact way as was in the thread.. and then turned off my system restore.. got the kit from symantec.. removed the worm.. went to the microsoft site downloaded the update.. and eeehaaa i was done..

nah, the damn thing just invites itself in through a few open ports. port 135 is most common, i believe.
