No this isn't a rant about how long DNF is taking. I'm making a little fan game for fun. :)
Just so its 100% Clear, this is a fan game project, by me and has absolutely no direct connections with 3dRealms/Apogee. This game will be 100% free. Duke Nukem is owned by 3dRealms/Apogee.
With that said, I can now tell you all about my little game. Just over a month ago, I released a little engine called STX001. I said I'd use it to make my next game and now I've finally done enough work to make it public. My game's working title is Duke Nukem: Waiting for Forever.

Whell, right now there isn't really much to say about this game. It is of course built on top of the STX001 engine. And it is, to my knowledge, the very first Duke Nukem fan game that ever was. =D Check out the very early, very raw, sneak peek demo.
Right now, nothing is set in stone. The story line, enemies, characters, vehicles and weapons haven't been tied down yet. But you can be sure that we'll open with Duke on the set of a popular talk show (only it'll be a future Dr Phil rather than a future Oprah (a la Duke2)).
Babes and big explosions are also planned.

as you can imagine, making a game, even if it's just a little fan game, is a huge task. I'm looking for people to help me with sprite art, tile art, background art, sound effects and music. any bit of help, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.

i dont give a shit about Duke Nukem Forever anymore....once HL2 and Doom 3 are out nobody will ever mention Duke Nukem again....i just faced the fact that the series is dead

I'm really struggling to get past the first 6 bots. The Dukester doesn't seem too durable, and it's been awhile since I've done a side-scroller, so there's some "rust" to deal with on my end. Seems like it could be fun; maybe the next build could include a skill level? Hey, I'm impressed. For me, the more Duke, the better.

Otay, that can be done. I'm also thinking of putting in a speed scale. There's quite a bit of slowdown on slower machines, on that particular level. :( Even on my machine it starts off a bit slow simply because of the number of objects on the map. Maybe the bots are going too fast for you as well.
Anyhoo, if they're coming at you all at once, you can pick them off one by one using the weapon that shoots the green star thing. If one of the bots are .. say | <-------> | that much away from the next one, and they get hit by the green star thing, only that bot will come after you. :D You'd hafta do this while sniping of course, cuz if you yourself get too close, they'll come after you.
Oh, and don't blow them up while they're next to other bots, they'll notice it!!

great game! i love it! better than 3DRealms could ever do! :D but yeah like Rhenna said, a bit too difficult, i cant get past the rescue area. i kill the first 4, but then im stuffed when i try to get the few on the second level. Still i love the game, looks great seems fun as much as i have played!

I've given some tactical advice in my last post and lemme just add to that. If you use the flame thrower as you're climbing up the ladder, you'd be able to kill the three bots across the gap. And since the flame thrower is short range, there's no chance of any stray bullets pissng off the bots that are further away.

hehe thanx for that ;) nah but serious, great job on the game, how long did it take you to build it? and how long is it (levels, stages etc?)
btw, which sydney do you live in? canada or australia?

Great work AVataRR! Very impressive for a one-man project! Only one suggestion though, it would be an improvement if you could make Duke a little bit tougher, so he wouldn’t die so easily.

I live in North Ryde. :p
The engine took about a month and all the content in that little demo took about another month. It'll probably take another month (give or take a fortnight) to finish everything. I haven't even tied down the story, much less have definate figures about levels! But I'm thinking.. maybe 8 or 12 levels. I'll make a point of making each one interesting; no point in having 32 levels with 16 of it being filler.

Duke is a little stronger now and the speed is a little slower, but that skill level slider is still in the planning stage.

LMAO.. the game is funny.. but slow.. overall it was a fun little bash.. i never got it to the end of the level.. is the game overly slow due to my system here at office.. its a p3 800 w/ 256 mb ram.. i guess its the system.. the gore is awesome.. i just need to get the hand of this game.. btw arent there any powerups or anything.. like health and shit.. that would rock.. pretty cool game dude.. i like it.. reminded me of duke nukem manhattan project which was a fun little bash also!

Okay, a new Sneak Peek Demo is up. Its got:
-new weapons, (LZR666, Sheepaliser)
-sheep!! =D
-entirely new level.
-new front end menu.
-new incline climbing code (for the mech and people)
-slightly improved backgrounds.
-a new fire ready indicator for the HUD.
