uninstall it. install linu.... I'm not gonna say it! If you have the hardware then XP can be a pretty decent OS. It just puts lank overheads on your hardware.

True... As long as you don't tweak it too much, XP is fast and stable compare to the previous shit they had. Give them some credits when they deserve it!

WinXP is the best OS i've used so far. note that i tweak quite a lot. it's on par with Win2k for stability, but i kinda enjoy some of the new features. then again, i'm one in a million who managed to get WinME workin great......
the only problem i have is that it doesn't enjoy extreme FSB. only able to get 192 before i get the IRQL BSOD shit.

Hey... I think someone in another thread said that monopoly is okay as long as they keep the price low, which they will since the customers are SO POWERFUL...! You agree with that shit?

We've got nine PC's on our household LAN all running various versions of Windows, except for Win95. (And, all of them are legal, damn-us-to-hell!) The three Win98 boxes are AT LEAST as stable as the two WinXP rigs. (Although they're pretty good, too.) And we've had no problem with Me, either. The trick is to turn all that crap running behind your back OFF! We run 'em lean & mean, with nothin' in the tray! I mean, do u wanna' multi-task, or FRAG?

Hehehe... just a question. Everyone knows to turn the background shit off while playing games, but WHAT are the things we really should turn off and what are not to be turned off? You can't open up the manager and just end all the processes, right?

That's a possibility. MS has "innovated" itself into a corner which prevents it from charging excessively high prices for its OS. Essentially, it is competing with older versions of its own OS. In order to maintain high stock price (hence their stock options and the wealth of most of their employees, owners, and major stockholders), MS must achieve constant OS sales. However, Windows has not changed significantly enough to attract a lot of new sales on its merits, so MS must achieve these sales through low prices instead. The home & small business PC market is totally commoditized, with Dell pushing down prices as hard as it can, and its competitors following suit. Further, most consumers use their PC for email, word processing, and home finances, which Win9x does just fine. The corporate PC market is similar, in that WinXP does little that Win2K doesn't already do, especially since W2K service packs include a lot of the new features of WinXP (especially the .NET stuff). When MS isn't competing against Linux and Unix, it's competing with older versions of its OS that do everything people already need it to do. So yes, the customers are very powerful when they all have valid reasons not to buy new versions of Windows. It forces MS to drop prices in the short term, and to actually truly innovate in the longterm. How long such a state can last, I don't know, but it sure seems to be the case right now.

As for tweaking WinXP, the best thing you can do are disable all the unnecessary Services. Here's a good site for learning which services to disable:
http://snakefoot.fateback.com/tweak/winnt/services.html
If you don't know where Services are, click Start->All Programs->Administrative Tools->Services.
