"TheKua", all you really need is a new processor, mobo, and RAM. I got my Athlon XP 2000+ and my Asus A7N8X for $270 at a local computer store, you migt be able to get it cheaper online, and DDR ROM is pretty cheap, you can probably find a 256Meg stick for $60 somewhere. You video card completly ownz mine, so does your monitor.

C&C generals requires are good graphics card than ram many game just require that :D Kua but with sdram u have to upgrade till 512 atleast ok
if u have C&C running slow in its option uncheck the 3d Now option and run it with medium texture it will run fine ok with 256mb ram

Cool system overall. You'll certainly want to watercool it, and unlock the chip, that'll let you have a sweet oc! And you'll really like the way the water tubes pick up the light from the cold cathodes. :) It's purdy.

IkYiolul
April 10th, 2003, 05:36 PM

what watercooler you got in your system? what would u recommend is the best and all..

aphremen
April 10th, 2003, 05:55 PM
I would suggest Becooling.com (http://www.aquastealth.com) they have great prices and when it comes to watercooling, there are better kits but they cost much more (and without much difference in cooling either). I have the aquastealth 2 and it's great. It's a bitch to fill the system but I have my own method for it, dunk the whole system underwater and let it run until there's no air. :) just make sure never put your hands in the water you are filling the system with, since that adds salt.

IkYiolul
April 10th, 2003, 06:28 PM

I think everyone knew that my old PC is fucked so I got a new one.:

mobo: VIA P4B4 (the most debated mobo, I think... it has four USB, two Firewire, an onboard network card, and onboard sound)

CPU: P4 2.6 Ghz.

Sound: My onboard sound is better than my sound card now, so I unplugged my soundcard.

Video: The same old 3D Prohpet 9700 Pro 128MB. (Yeah Matt I'm using a Radeon too...)

Case: a new tower!

Power Supply: Some nice shit with 99% output factor continuously at 400w. Mad quiet too! (My computer's noise has been reduced by about 80% since I got the new CPU fan and the new PSU...)

Get a proggie like motherboard monitor or something...at any rate do you mean to say you BOUGHT you computer already built?! You didn't build it with your own two hands? Majorgeeks (http://www.majorgeeks.com) should have some usefull programs to help you find out your specs...but for specific stuff like how fast your HD spins, you should remember that from when you install it. Take notes. :)

U gotto realize that if u never got on a super fast rig like alot of u guys have. And when u use ur rig for the things that I do. Light gameing and learning graphics, webdesinging. I really don't need much more. So I plan on upgrading the mem, hhd 2 atleast 20gig,and get a cd burner. The manual says that my mobo can take a 700 mhz pen, so if I could find one of them at a good price I might get one of them.

Since I don't overclock, the fans are just fine. Since they came with the case, I don't really care about installing them all. They are quiet, and they keep the case at low temps. On top of that, I don't use the heater in my room anymore because the fans push SO much warm air..

April 30th, 2003, 05:16 AM
Ah, well, if they are quite and came with the case. If you are happy with it, that's what's important, right? Whenever someone says "I have 200,000 fans" I imagine some guy with a bunch of Screamin' Deltas and his case sounds like a jet engine.

After reading my post, I'm not sure I made any sense. Haha oh well.

I know what you mean, my old computer had 1/2 the fans but was far, far louder. All my fans are the ball-bearing type (except the stinkin CPU fan which is the only fan that makes my system loud). I had loud computers since I listen to MP3's off of mine at night. I know I don't need all the fans but like I said they came with the case I bought so what the heck I spent a whoppin 180 bucks for it (Thermaltake Xaser - not including power supply)

Well, the two other sound card's I've tried are buggy as hell, and yes, I disabled the onboard sound in the bios - in fact, I did that before I installed windows. The audigy was fine for gaming, but horrible for MP3's, and the phillips I tried was the other way around. The onboard sound doesn't have all the good features but at least it works..

The thing about Half-Life 2 was from PC Gamer I think they did mention something about a TNT2.

Here are my specs I built it myself:

AMD Athlon 1.2ghz
Abit KT7A Mobo
512mb PC133 CAS3 ram from Crucial
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 X-Gamer
NVidia Geforce 3 Ti 200 64mb

Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Speakers

Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback wheel with pedals
2 Microsft Joysticks
Microsoft 3.0A Intellimouse Explorer
Logitech keyboard

I think thats everything...

I got this all (except the Radeon) at the end of last year.

Asus P4S8X
Pentium 4 2.8ghz 533mhz fsb
512mb DDR333
WD800JB Western Digital 80gb HDD
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb (got this the other week)

Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 510D
19" Unbranded monitor (1600x1200@75hz)
LG Studioworks 57M 15" monitor
Coolermaster ATC-201a

There's other assorted stuff, but those are the things that count. Too many fans (8 I think) but the noise is constant so I just don't hear it.

I recently read a Dutch magazine who said Europe had to wait till independent manufacturers will make them because ATI doesn't supply within Europe. So that lead me to believe other regions might be able to buy them sooner which region that might be I don't know....my guess is the US. I know this is not the answer you were looking for but it MIGHT help you.

I really like the Megaworks 510D's. My neighbours hate them. :D
There's a new version of them now, 6.1 THX 650 super-ultra-plus-mega-boom-tastic something or other.
I wouldn't know enough about speakers to say if they were technically the best, but they're perfect for listening to music and playing games.
Only a few problems I found with them. Wired volume control is just a knob that turns around. I have it velcro'd to the side of the desk but it can slot in under one of the front speakers. They were also damn expensive so if you're on a budget then all this was probably quite useless to you. Also, no headphone/microphone socket.

no, i just find it weird. pairing a radeon 9800 with an athlon 1.33 ghz (overclocked or not). u know, huge bottleneck. have u tried running 3Dmark2k1SE? that'll give u a better impression on your overall performance.

MrBored
May 24th, 2003, 03:22 AM
Well this is how I look at it. The cpu does fuck all relative to its speed nowadays. Think about it, the cpu is doing 3 times as many cycles as the graphics card and it doesn't have to do any graphics calculations which are 90% of the game or benchmark, so it spends its time twiddling its thumbs. All it does really is limit my maximum frame rate, i.e. in Quake 3, because of the low graphics card optimization, I can only get 200fps in low detail, but with max FSAA and AF I get 130fps.

But with all this said and done I'm hoping to get my Barton 2800+ within the next 2 weeks :D (And its not gonna run a single clock cycle not overclocked)

EDIT: I cant run 3DMark 2003SE, it says I dont have DirectX 8.1 installed, which I dont cause I have 9, stupid ass program.

yeah, that's why i told him to run 3Dmark2k1SE. sorry to tell ya, but chances are that score has NOTHIN to do with the FSB u have. i took mine up to 202 from 180, and it gave me 15 pts!!!! and then i overclocked the card 15mhz on the core, and it gave me 102pts. 99% graphics crad, 1% everythin else. i've heard DC DDR helps, but probably not by much.
