Its bad enough we have these has beens like Metallica charging 60 bucks plus for shitty seats at a concert, with a bad sound stage, then on top of it, putting out 15 stale pathetic crappy songs on a CD and expecting someone to pay a buck a song. Fuck you all, I will never purchase music again.

*sigh* I hope you realise that you ARE stealing, and it IS illegal. Stop bitching. Go out and buy it if you want the music, if you don't buy it, all the risk is on you.

That's like saying "Nobody should have to pay for Music. It still costs them hundreds of thousands to make a CD, but they shouldn't get any money because I don't feel like paying for it." Think, it costs them millions to put out CDs, and they're making MUCH less than before, many millions less. Tehn they have to pay everyone's salaries, etc. Quit bitching.

There will never be a substitute for actually getting an original CD... However, If you want to download a couple songs to see if you WANT to buy that CD (since you can't return them ), I think you should be able to "sample" the music the way it was meant to be heard (ie. the whole song). I don't know about anybody else, but a 5 second preview doesn't tell me if I'm gonna like a whole CD or if it's gonna be worth my $15.

If you like it... buy it.

If you don't, well, that's why you should be able to try it first.

ALTHOUGH:

There is still some GREAT music from the 60s, 70s, and even early 80s that you can't find on CD... for those songs, I think downloading should be OK. It would really suck to have a whole generation of music that nobody could legally listen to anymore because you can't buy it on CD and it's Illegal to download.

Hmmm....

no easy answer to this one.

PEACE

Here's a thought:

Stealing music won't make the industry change. It'll make them mad. Instead, just stop buying music. Listen to what you have for a while. If enough people do that, maybe then they'll realize there is a genuine dissatisfaction with the way they operate.

There is a genuine dissatisfaction with the way they operate, but stealing shit is stealing shit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it. I'm just against people bitching about what they're doing.

Well, this is the rant room so Im bitching...And Im bitching about these people crucifying honest hard working everyday people. Once again, I have no problem purchasing a CD, as long as its not 1 or 2 hits with a bunch of garbage attached so they can sell it as a full album. Plus they think all these declines in sales is just because of file share...Well, lemme tell you they started having problems the minute CD writers became available at reasonable prices. Of course the original CD, Tape or Record is a better quality recording. As for the free music? Well hate to break it to ya pal, it is free allready, ever hear of a radio? Every day, every minute around the world this music is playing for anyone to listen to. I understand why they would want to sue Kazaa or whoever because Kazaa was advertising while people would download. Its not like you and I are selling this music and profiting from it. So dont even say stop bitching, because these guys are laughing all the way to the bank. Look at it this way, these guys HOPE that people keep downloading, so they can keep sueing...Its probably a better profit for them to sue people, then it is to actually sell the music. Read between the lines people!

It was questionable in the Cross of Gold speech, but it's a little overblown here. No one is being forced to buy these. If they want to rock out, they can. Legally, they'd just have to pay. I don't agree with much the RIAA is doing, but they are legally allowed, right now. So don't get mad that they are enforcing their legal rights. Everyone being sued has broken the law.
And the radio thing doesn't work. The stations are paying the artists. It's not free like that.
People are not being crucified. People are not going to jail. They are being sued for violating copyrights. Besides, if you don't like it, don't buy it, it's as simple as that. You obviously feel strongly about free music. People will pay $15 for a CD. I think that, for the enjoyment I've gotten out of The Dandy Warhols Come Down, it's more than worth the money I put in. Of course I'd rather get these free. It just doesn't work that way.
Until you channel your obviously present rage and revolt, we're in a capitalist system. Even under a Communist system, music wouldn't be free. Under any system.

Radio pays artists. We pay artists. That's the way it goes.
