Steam pisses me off, I'm sure we'll find some other way to play HL2 online, fuck steam.

Just a small question: how is this different than what Blizzard has done?

"As well, Valve forces all users to use Steam, because they are shutting down the WON Servers, which you need to play Half-Life online without Steam."

Well, I see you haven't tried steam yet.

HOLY SHIT!!! 14881 Total Signatures!

The last time I used Steam was when I was playing 1.6(a, b, whatever) Dispite the 500 someodd mb CS download, shitty logging in, nearly impossible to get in a server, and a big spike when a 56K'er came in(there were some). Oh and the guns were also shitty except the shield. The shield was so fun. But anyways, I agree but, no lag....hmm...very few 56k'ers....but for some reason, 1.6 is so repetitive. If CS: CZ is using Steam then I say, meh.

No, I've been playing BF1942 since I got it, so I haven't gone back to CS or DoD. It's that bad? Wow.

Are they really going to listen? I once saw a petition to Digital Extremes. The request was to incorporate death ball (a UT2K3 mod) into UT2K4 as the part of the default package. The petition was signed by over 12000 gamers. And what? Did it work? I doubt that. I’m also having troubles with steam, but there is nothing wrong with the system that further patching can not fix.

As I said, right now steam is at its earliest stages and in need of tremendous improvements. But since Valve decided to stick with it I’m certain that not even a million petition signups will stop them. All though I don’t quite understand what was the use of the beta testing since right now we are back right to the point where we began (complete frustration and infinite struggle).

Oh and BTW is it just me or is the CS 1,6 bot function is gone completely?

they should make it that you "can" use steam if you like not like you HAVE to use it ( with valves games and stuff ofcrse )

It's not in it's earliest stages at all. It just came out of the early stages and is now supposed to be a fully functioning product.

Supposed to be. But since it isn’t (fully functioning) its quite logical to assume that it in fact is at its earliest stages. As I’m continuing to say beta testing did it absolutely no good. Valve expects steam to handle the whole modding community plus be an online store and be able to accommodate millions of gamers simultaneously. And I have to say that is a lot of responsibility. No wonder it has so many disadvantages right now.

But don’t worry future man I’m certain there will be an alternatives to get your CS, HL2 multiplayer experience. And if there won’t be any, we will make them ourselves. ;)

Ok this conversation is going nowhere. My opinions on the situation are mine to keep. I made my point regarding the topic.

RAD over and out.

On a mere cautionary note, it might not be good to expect an internet petition to change people's minds. There is no way to control the signatures. A lot of people would ignore it outright, simply because it would be fairly easy, if I had the time, to get a petition to ban, say, coconut, and have a lot of signatures.
All the same, it sounds like they might be needing input. From the way Rad put it, maybe it would help Valve if you e-mailed them with your concerns and tried to help.
Maybe?

I and tons of others did that during the beta, constantly.

I was browsing a net for news when I stumbled upon a site distributing a CS 1.6 hacks designed specifically for the new instalment of steam. Upon them was an aim bot and a few other quite nasty surprises. I will not post a link to that site because it would violate a forum policy. But I just wanted to warn you guys that hacks are already out for new CS 1.6 steam version and being widely used. So don’t be surprised to see someone flying thru the air on your usual CS server.

Wow, those hackers work fast. I hope CS never dies, it makes it so there are less hacks for other games.

CS died years ago when the fuckin' cheaters were on EVERY server. I couldn't find a single server without at least 3 cheaters on it.

Indeed. I think everyone expects cheaters for CS, so if the people that make those things want to continue spending their time hacking CS, that's alright. Ideally, the hacks wouldn't exist, but if they stay on CS, I feel a little better about BF1942.

Hehe, I don't know if you guys play Raven Shield or not, but the new 1.41 patch came out and included punkbuster and it was reported that there were 300 new "John Does" (The default name). 300 people is about 1/5 the Raven Shield community. 300 fresh installs after punkbuster came with the new patch. Hmmm why on earth would they need to re-install? ;)

Hmm gives you something to think about, doesn’t it?

Well, I just downloaded steam. It crashed once, but after that it worked fine. I downloaded the one with CS in it already (Wanted a game to test steam out on), and it was pretty cool (steam, not CS). I really like how the steam menus are intergrated with the game, and steams server browser is way better then Half-Lifes bulit in one. Once steam is working like it should, its going to rock.

Well I dont have time for this shit, I will have even less time in the future, so fuck it or fuck the game and I'm sure I'll find a pirated version that wont make me log on the fucking thing all the time.
