cant wait, I really liked nfs hp2, unfortunately the ps2 version was better and offered more options, hopefully they wont cut the pc version down like that again. I have a thing for driving, I can go back and race round a track against AI any day of the week and still enjoy it.

If the AI is well done.. hell why not.. Midnight Club 2 did not get my attention for the sole reason that AI cheats.. unnecessarily.. heck Tron 2.0 light cycle races are more fun that that piece of shit MC2

I agree, it does look good, though it does look a bit Midnight Club 2'ish but its a good thing I guess. I love urban environment racing sims (?) so I'm looking forward to this one.

Midnight Club 2 was really weak IMO. It felt like Crusin Exotica with a nonlinear track.
NFS: Underground looks fuckin INSANE though! Just put a whole new exhaust, hi-flow cat, headers, and intake on my ride this past weekend. Imports rock!

I just love how they spend all this time making the cars look good, but then the textures look like utter crap. It's always happening nowadays. The few games that stand out are always the one where they spent a lot of time working on textures and/or the gameplay is just too great to care.
But just look at the road!!! Ugh.
RAY16
October 14th, 2003, 08:17 AM
Yeah, the road and other textures aren't that good (thanks PS2!) but you won't really notice it when you are driving around at 100MPH+.

Nice looking slippery wet roads.. I hope the roads don't always look reflective or that could get annoying really fat, besides that it looks like another Midnight club flunky.. only difference is this name franchise might carry this one along.

Looks good, but I dont want another NFS HP2, I want real cars psyhics, real damage, real suspension, acceleration etc, it's what NFS was from the start, now all they make is eye candy, but the games are shit for kiddies.
Plus those screens remind me of Fast and Furious wich leaves bad taste in my mouth.
Hope they make you care about your var, ie scrach the wall and there goes your paint = money etc.

October 14th, 2003, 10:38 AM
There damnwell better be real damage. Best NFS game I ever played was Porche Challenge, that career was sweet, very long and a wide range of cars to drive. What really made it is the car damage, which meant it wasn't just another racing arcade game where you smash your car around the walls to get a better time.
I thought MC2 was ass.

I cant find one picture or article from a website that mentions dmg, but is it really that important ??? I think wrecking the hell out of your car wouldnt make the speed seem at fun, you would have to worry about jacking up your ride

I get what your saying tho... Im assuming/hoping that is just one track where its like a post night rain type thingy. Cause it will get old quick if not.
I dunno tho... the videos are pretty damn amazing. Ive never played a NFS game where u felt like you were moving so fast. Thats why f-zero looks so damn fast because they put textures on the ground to make it look faster than it is

Hmm I still cant decide what would be more appropriate for this one. Either no car damage system. Allowing faster and wilder gameplay. Or a good damage system to make the game look and feel more realistic. Both ideas could have a bright future (if approached correctly of course).

it is and will be, no dmg fast gameplay

I'm waiting for Gran Turismo 4. That looks like the shit right there, everything about the game looks really good. Hopefully they'll have real-time damage and make it look like your driving 150+ in you Corvette C5. GT 3 had neither of those things and that was its only downside.

alright you guys, looks like u need some education about this game. i love racers, and have been following this one closely... well, kind of. The roads u keep talking about, they're always wet as if it just rained. The reason, they're to help give a good sensation of speed when u'r driving fast with the reflective lights off the roads. The guy who worked on the pod racing scene from episode 1 lead the design of this game. The sensation of speed will be this game's major feature. The game implements shaky cam when the car is driving at high speeds to help with the sensation of speed. The tracks are not designed after real world tracks, but were designed for allowing speed, that means long straightaways, and no complicated turns. There will be dozens of licensed cars, and tons more real car mods. EA got lots of licensing with lots of manufacturers for this game, which is why there will not be accurate damage systems, cuz' the car companies wouldn't allow their cars to be seen ugly.
If you've seen the gameplay videos for this game you would know that this is clearly better than mc2. The physics, track graphics, and sounds are very nice.
However, I personally believe the cars look like crap. They are shiny, very shiny, but that doesn't make up for the fact that they look like they have really low poly counts. It seems like they're not a single smooth edge on these cars. They just look disgusting close up, however I'm sure we won't notice this when we're driving at high speeds.

check out street racing syndicate. city graphics may not be that good but the cars look very nice. They are shiny and reflective and much more realistic looking. Too bad this is a console only game.

Never heard of that game.

Thats not why, its because EA is cheap. I've seen games with real licensed cars that ahve damage modeling. It just cost's more money.

October 15th, 2003, 03:16 AM
errr.. NFS games usually had damage.. including NFS 4 and Proche Unleashed.. heck even NFS: HP 2 had damage.. in a cheap kindof way!
OhioU|BearFocker
October 15th, 2003, 06:40 AM
The only good damage system I have ever seen is on burnout 1/2, those games are phat.
anywho.... I think it would ruin the fun to have to worry about fockin the car up when u flip a nos

Well then go play some shite micro machines or something, you wont have to worry bout anything, arcadey crap action.
Can you atleat buy new parts for your cars in this game?? Like in MotoCity?

October 15th, 2003, 12:13 PM
yes........... dont you guys ever read any actual articles about games lol

October 15th, 2003, 02:15 PM
wow, buying parts for your car is what the main point of this game is!!! it only takes a second to figure that out. try gamespot.com, type in need for speed underground in the search and there you go.
