Anyone still remember this game? A really good 3d RTS game of its time with a very decent graphic engine. I even think that the overall texture and color usage is even better than Empire Earth, (aka That Piece of Shit).

I got rid of this game for about 15 bucks, however, after three weeks of playing. And I never even thought about playing it again. Why? The pathfinding system!it sucked!

We all know that this is the most common problem in all RTS games but it is just unacceptable in Dark Reign 2. If you have played this game before I believe that you remember that shit. The frustration of commanding my units to victory while getting them stucked all the time sucked away all the damn fun and I unubstalled it.

(sigh)... that game's graphic was really great...:(

I agree with you. Anybody that says Empire Earth's graphics look good are deep down lying to themselves. THE TEXTURES WERE HORRIBLE!!! HORrIBLE!!!!!!!!

the graphix in EE were pretty good.....you just had to be zoomed as far as possible to avoid looking at the textures from up close. I remember the first time i played the demo. in the cinematic, the british riflemen looked like someone had barfed the texture over em....pretty nasty indeed.

now that ive played Generals though....EE looks entirely like puke.

Well, in Dark Reign 2 you never have to worry about the zooming because the graphic looks still good at the closetst distance. All the guns are a solid polygon instead of the one-piece texture in EE. And the color, although a bit shady, fit the theme well. EE looks too cartoonish in certain way, and some color don't belong to their place. Age of Mythology did a good job on this, something EE should learn from....

EE sucked major ass in every aspect, was a same boring AOK with shitty 3D graphics, yeah you could zoom out so you wont see the shitness, but the damn game will often zoom in so you can see the crappy models run around in cinematic sequences(pain in the ass). The whole game was like these guys are good against these while shit against these and those are good against these while being total trash against the previous.
All the characters and units were "BLAH"

Dark Reign 2 was cool in looks and in gameplay, but it didnt live up, the first one was the bomb, wow I remember Dark Reign one with awesome cinematics and two sides with buttload of cool units and first game to have "search & destroy" ....the jungle setting was very cool.... played Dark Reign 2, I liked it, but it just had to many frustrating factors like u mentioned the path finding and the small type of maps...

Earth 2150 series were good games, though they never got popular for some reasons (maybe most people went to be the Sims...?... little retards LOVE the Sims...) 2150, 2160, and Lost Souls are really, really, really good titles. All of these 3D RTS are better than Empire Earth. Maybe I should open a new thread talk about how bad EE is.

yea earth 2150 had lotsa innovative stuff. tunnels were kickass, and they were actual tunnels that you had to dig, and not instant tunnels like in starcraft or generals.

they also had the custom units builder. sometimes it was annoying having to do your own units in the heat of a battle, but it was really nice.

the problem with the game was that the interface was too clunky. they tried to put too many commands in there and it got complicated. the gameplay was also really imbalanced...especially the ED who could build nukes by the ton.
path finding was also a pain in the ass

2150 was'nt any good... but 2160 is something really no one thought the way it would be... although the texture of the terrain was still repetitive, and the color was all that good, still. But the detail of each units and buildings were good. I will definitely call this game one of its own kind for all the innovative elements they have.
