I have installed the finalrender stage1 demo for 3dsmax v6 (it came in the cd2).

I get 8 errors like these, all refer to the plugin files i think. I used the default installation paths for both 3dsmax6 and finalrender so i think i've installed it in th right path. Any idea of what going on? Here's one of the error massages i get.

Sorry cant help you. Our company will be getting it only in two weeks (that means I will be getting it for home usage as well :) , the legal version of course ) . You might want to check out this place (if you haven't already). I am sure some one at their forums will be able to help you:

http://www.finalrender.com/finalrender/

BTW an off topic question. How many CDs is it on (3dsMax6 that is), two or three?

3dsmax is 3 cds.

1st: program (3dsmax, character studio, reactor) references files, samples (maps) etc.

2nd: Partner/discreet certified plugins. also some benchmark scenes and some other stuff.

3rd: Tutorial scenes and files. Somes videos showing new features and some other stuff.

Well bout the finelrender i'll check the link. thx

I think i've found the problem with final render demo. Duing installation it emphasizes in having BackBurner correctly installed and running and it looks i can't get it to work.

First of all, i have read that it has to be installed in c:\3dsmax6\backburner2 and in my pc it is automatically installed in c:\program files\discreet\backburner2.

Anyway i followed some instructions to set backburner up. i run the installation service. Then i open the services windows tool to activate backburner as a service and it's then when i get an error. Tomorrow i'll give details on the error i get as it's quite late now and i'm a bit tired.. :/

The only think i can imagine the problem is caused by is that my windows copy is Spanish and my 3ds copy is english.... but more than this i have no clue...

Well I've been told that we are getting it tomorrow, so we'll see about it's functionality than. I am also quite eager to start on a car modelling so as soon as I'll have anything done I'll post it in our "3D Models." thread.

Looks like you are missing a file. Either that, or, the file is corrupt, or possible did not write into your system's registry.

My suggestions: Go to the site and get that file you are missing, and replace it in the same directory.

Maybe the CD is scratched?

<edit> When mechwarrior 4 was scratched, it wouldnt let me install the file that was corrupt. But since thats a demo, they usally dont spend much time testing those, so the install wouldnt prompt you.

why does this plugin hate me so much? :( Have you been on their forums (http://www.finalrender.com/forums/fR_main/YaBB.pl)? What did they say? Try reinstalling directX and get the latest drivers for your video card (al though the problem is probably not there, but lets play safe). Also tell me your system specs. Maybe, you could get one of those CD repair kits(i dont know if they really work, or if the software company even put that file on the disk)

I'm going to run a search for the application extension you are missing. Seriously, its prolly out there. I found an active X control called "beans.ocx"

[edit] I couldnt find anything. If you have the time, you could search for something like 3Dsmax v.6 + finalRender St1 source files... Or something.

Another quik way to repair a CD is to: Rub tooth paste all over it, then wash it off and dry it.

Reinstall DirectX? 0_o are you sure doing such a thing is possible?

the last time i tried to unistall directx (a 3rd party unsupported program was the only way) i completly messed up my pc and had to reinstall windows... :(

My video card drivers are up to date (see below for more info).

I'm sure its not a cd problem but i'll try what you said about cleaning it and stuff...

My PC

AMD Athlon TB 1Ghz (no sse).
384MB Ram Dimm 133Mhz (it sucks i know).
Windows XP Professional.
Creative 3DBlaster5 FX5200 64MB DDR with Forceware(detonators) 53.16 drivers.

Creative 3DBlaster5 FX5200 64MB DDR with Forceware(detonators) 53.16 drivers. NO! Sorry! DON’T REINSTALL DIRECT X! I meant install the latest version (if I’m not mistaking that’s a DirectX 9.0b). Though it is possible to uninstall it, but as you mentioned it can prove to be very dangerous. But you ignored my other question. Have you been on their forums? Sorry for asking twice, but it’s probably the best and most efficient way for you to get the solution to your problem.

Radiator, i owe you my life :)

I entered the forums, registered, went to the final render forums page and have just realised its was all about picking a file from c:\3dsmax5/backburner (nrapi20.dll, if anyone wants to know) and copying it to c:\3dsmax5..

i now feel like shooting at myself :p

BIG THANKS/SORRY TO ALL OF YOU who replied :)

if you are really deep into 3d design you may find it interesting but you don't miss many imprescindible features, it has, for example a new and beter layer managent tool. it also has a quite enhanced vertex paint tool (much more powerful than in 5.1) and some improvements into many other tools. also comes with latest character studio and reactor releases tough i don't use these too much so i can't tell you much more..

for a list of features and videos showing them head to discreet.com. there's also a demo i think so, actually the best you can do is check the program yourself... i guess it's a big download though
