Anyone have the Maxtor 80 gig with 5400 rpm Harddrive? I have had one for about 4 months and it died out of no where on me, luckily they have a good warrenty so i can get a new one, I was just wondering if anyone else had problems with this hard drive?

get my seagate hard drive...its the best..and most quiet out there...it would be a grand replacement...
and always get a 7200 rpm over 5400 its about a 33% performance increase and with my hard drive no sound at all so you would love it...peace out

i love my Seagate 80 gig also, but i've heard that it fucks up... mine has been running fine since last May.... and that's including at least 50 Win98 related crashes

I know you guys like your rig to be quiet, but my hard drive's noise isn't too loud and I would know that the system is doing things instead of being freezed if it makes sound... so it is a good thing for me. My big hard drive makes absolutely NO NOISE, and sometimes I get nervous 'cause don't know if it's moving or not...

Well if i could get a new hard drive I would but I can only get the exact same model that i currently have, atleast with the warrenty and I dont really have the spare money to buy a brand new one.

I would not recommend Maxtor. My dad ordered a bunch for work and they all failed in about a year. I would stick with Western Digital but they fail occasionally as well. I have had abunch of IBM's and they have never had problems.

Damn this harddrive is so quiet i can hear me breathe at night in all the quietness.. i tried using intel application accelarator and turned off acoustic management and this drive started to run like hell with decreased loading times and still it was way quieter than any harddrive i have ever seen and i have been using it since last june or something and also that included 3 formats and unlimited win 98 crashes.. yet this puppy is fast and quiet.. get a 7200rpm one and enjoy ur life in peace

Dunno much about Maxtor... though i used quantum fireball (now termed maxtor) and that was a gr8 harddrive.. also western digital hds are awesome though a little noisy.. The Barracuda does NOT have the tech u speak off.. better check the seagate website.. seagate.com

SCSI drives suck shit.. i dunno about u ppl but i have had 3 harddrives.. I SAID 3 DAMMIT.. fucked up within 2 MONTHS.. I SAID 2 FUCKING MONTHS.. damn.. just buy a simple IDE ones with 8MB cache buffer.. and viola u are in heaven.. the difference between an IDE and SCSI is so minimal it can be achieved by using more RAM.. which is quite cheap anyways.. plus u really cant change ur harddrive every fucking day.. (p.s. this was at my workplace.. where all i run is visual studio, sql server 2000, java runtime environment, jsuite and sometimes jdeveloper.. this isnt half the load of what my home pc gets)

heh, I think IBM aught to be pretty reliable..so thats what I got last year, 109 for a 80gig 7200...now I got 110gb! w00t!
Like I've said in other threads, Maxtor is quiet, mine is kinda quiting, but i just think thats loose cable connections (due to the constant swaping I do) I've never had problems with a maxtor other than my own stupidity lol. Screw a Seagate, have you guys read other threads? theres so many things wrong with them. I guess everything dies tho eventually...

when ur hardrive is 40gigs+ always have a harddisk cooler installed on ur hard disk to prevent bad sector
