Well, My Mobo is a Soyo KT333DUP and I bought some PC2700 DDR333 and cannot set the FSB at 166! I had it set at 166 for a long time and thought it was my processor but later set the FSB to 133 and it is very stable now. I'm even overclocking the processor to 1.96Ghz. I've also seen that the 2200+ doesn't support the 333mhz timings and also that the board doesn't support 166fsb processor. Help me correct my shit! I might just get an NForce2 mobo...

uh, if you up the FSB to 166, you are effectively overclocking th CPU and AGP and PCI as well. at 166mhz, your CPU would be running at 2.24ghz (hope you've got H2O cooling), the AGP would be at 83mhz (not too bad, depending on the board), and the PCI would be at 41.5mhz (also nott too bad, depending on your devices). the way you'll make it is to either unlock your CPU and get the multi down, or run the RAM async (which i've heard is absolutely horrible). u could run out and get great cooling for the CPU, but it wouldn't be too practical considering you're just tryin to get some extra memory bandwidth.

as a side note, KT333 boards do not support 166mhz fsb cpu's "officially". the way around that is always overclocking, and a good board always has AGP/PCI dividers.

forgive me if you've already thought of this.

hey, thanks for your input. it helps to have suggestions! I do have liquid cooling so maybe that'll help for a solution. I still think it's bs that the KT333 doesn't officially support DDR333 processors! that's the reason i bought it! Oh well, more research next time.

Yup, VIA sucks ass, do you have any sound crap like shit preformance or sound skipping???

Cant wait till my next upgrade so I can get rid of this bullshit VIA motherboard.

Juses! I thought VIS'a chipset was the most stable one! You have sound skipping problem with it? I hardly use onboard sound system so I never noticed.... but (sigh) it is bad to know that VIA has issues... or you forget to update the 4in1 drivers?

VIA had some problem back in the day with sb Live series (and it seems to have transfered to the audigy series). still happens, therefore VIA+creative=:(. as for stability, the KT266A was the best amd chipset at it's time (amd 761 was complete shit). the KT333 was more of an update to the KT266, as it provided marginal real world performance boost. the only that saved it was the incredibly good motherboards released with it; A7V333, KX7333(arguably the best o/c board for its time), 8K3A+, etc...

point being, the fault should not be placed on VIA. in any case...why NOT get an nforce2? awesome boards.

well thanks you guys! and yes I do have sound skipping! godammit! Hmmm... time to save some more $. Unless there's a fix for the mobo & audigy prob?

as far as i've seen, if it happens, it's gonna continue happening. if it doesn't happen, the crackling will never begin.

sorry to say i've never seen it fixed...
