Hi All,
This is my first post in this forums, i hope you'll help me.
I'm having a PC with 16 bit agp card. I got a Hitman 2 :Silent Assassin cd, and installed it. but as soon as i'm executed the main exe file, a short message comes that says "Error : Try changing resolutions or colour depth". I've read the read me file and found that this game need 32 bit agp card, which i don't have.
Main Problem = I bought this full version cd after playing the demo of Hitman 2, even while playing demo also, i face the same problem, but i opened the *.ini file and changed the resolution and colour depth option and that worked well. I played the full demo. But after setting the changes in the ini file of the full version, i''m not be able to play the game.
How it can be happened that it work with demo version and not with the full version as i'm facing the same problem both the time?????
Please help me with the solution if anyone faced the same problem.

Could you please be more specific as to which video card you are using, also try putting it in 16bit colour on your desktop.

I think I know what you're talking about because I have Hitman 2. In full version Hitman 2, it is impossible to play with 16-bit texture, unlike the demo, because of the advanced texture they used in some maps. It is not the resolution, but color-depth, that prevent the game from start. DirectX in Hitman 2 can only be run at 32-bit. The map in the demo doen't come with all the feature, either, and it needs to be run under 32-bit color, as well.
Changing the desktop color-depth won't help either, since DirectX will be instructed to make it 32-bit after you start the program.
Did you mention that you have a 16-bit card? You probably won't be able to play this game unless you you upgrade. Better go get a 64-mb card so half of the ram will handle the graphics, and the other half handle the gameplay.

When you see some advertisment like "Good computers for cheap" and they usualy have something like "Pentium 4 Ghz!!!"
followed by very attractive price, but be sure the rest of it is pure crap... so I guess you bought something like that :)
Because no pre-32mb generation hardware could run Hitman2 nicely.... or you just upgraded everything but your vid card :D
Ummm so yeah buy a new video card, you REALLY need to ;)

I agree. How else could they come up with a rig with such an amazing CPU at sych a low price. You might ends up with a computer that is so fast, but can't really do shit since it doesn't support this dosen't support that...

Maybe he has a Voodoo Banshee, or a Voodoo 3. I was, and remain, a big 3dfx fan, but there's no 32-bit color to be had with either of those cards, EXCEPT on the (2D) desktop. Never mattered years ago, (...has it been THAT long???), but it's a big obstacle, now. Damn, I wish 3dfx hadn't screwed-up so bad, and that they were still in the race.

Thanks Yian for replting.
I think i need to upgrade my agp card as per game requirement. Can you name any good 64 bit agp card available in market. I'll be thankful to you.
By the time, i'll buy new card, i wanna try Medal of Honour - Allied Assault. Is thios game also require 32 bit colour depth.
Waiting for your reply.

Hey, you're welcome! But looking for a card takes sometime... Could someone who's also reading this give him a hand, too? It might take me about a day to find a good card with the right price... so the more people looking into it, the better...

Now is probably not a good time to buy a card. Because some new cards are coming out, you can expect a price drop on all the old cards... but I will still give you some of my thoughts. The price, however, will be much lower than the ones I have for you if you can just wait for a little longer.
First of all, I never liked any MX cards, so I wouldn't recommend you any either. A Geforce4 MX is as powerful as a real Geforce2...
There are many cards out there has 64 mb, and as you know, most of them are based on ATI and Nvidia's chips... ATI has raw power while nVidia has amazing stability. If you're going to play Medal of Honor, I would recommend you a NVidia card, because their drivers works with OpenGL better than ATI's card. Not necessarily faster, but less trouble you will have to go through.
Now things get easy if we focus on just nVidia cards... They have many things to offer though. You probably don't want a Geforce2 any more because it doesn't support some advanced texture or pixel shader thingy today... Geforce3 is a totolly forgotton product, so we can now stat to pick thing out of Geforce4...
If you don't want to spend $200 dollars:
Verto GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB DDR 2D/3D Video w/TV Support. This card is good because its memory speed was made faster than the original GeForce4 ti cards (from 444Mhz to 500Mhz). It is about $125.
Xtasy GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP 64MB DDR 2D/3D w/ TV Out. This one appears to have a faster core speed... somewhere around $150.
If you can spend more money:
Verto GeForce4 Ti4600 AGP 128MB DDR 2D/3D. Without TV in/output, but it is fast. Mine friend has it and he say it is pretty good. About $230. Ti4600 is definitely faster than Ti4200, and the extra ram helps, too.
Albatron GeForce4 Ti4600 AGP 128MB DDR 2D/3D. Albatron makes great cards, and this one has great cooling. About $240.
If you just want a very fast card...
Hopefully GeforceFX Ultra is coming out soon... I heard rumors that this shit is not gonna be massively produced because it can't really beat Radeon 9700 Pro.
I have a 3D Prophet 9700 Pro with 128MB (because I only buy things from Hercules.), but for all the trouble I have gone through to make it work perfectly (it is very awesome after all the details have been taken care of...), I'm not gonna recommend anyone any ATI card in the future. Nvidia can do more with your system, too, while ATI is really just for gaming. You might think "oh well, I just want to play games..." But for a person who switch from nVidia to ATI, I felt so many damn things are missing in my card, though it is fast...

"Radeon 9500 pro" or non pro version(cheaper bit), that card is very powerfull, it put's down such beasties like GF FX5600Ultra and it costs less!

hmm...yes i sure think so...my comp can handle it...i got it off an ftp site so maybe it didnt have all the textures or something, alls i know is...cs does have good graphics and whoever says thats wrong never played cs... the reason the graphics are soo good for cs is that its soo old of a game and i'll give them a credit for updating cs with more polys every time theres a new update for it, thats all i was saying...
alls i got to say is...my hitman 2 didnt look too nice too me...it sucked i thought... fuck that game

Sorry to rain on the parade... But me too has problem to see how is it even possible for CS to have better graphics than Hitman 2. CS has just the same quality on their graphics as in Half-Life because it is a mod of Half-Life. And Half-Life's graphics sucks. But CS is an extremelt addictive game and those who turned it down for its graphics should really reconsider. But still, CS can't possibly have better graphics than Hitman 2 in ANY circumstances...
BTW, I was playing SOFII with my 9700 PRO for the first time, and the graphics is sweet! I can't believe that a game can look so good! I put AI to consultant level, and now I'm having fun with some very "realistic" gun fights now. Wish me luck.... after I finished all my business and resume playing that is, of course.
