Perhaps you should be a little more specific about what you mean by "rendering software". If you mean 3d editing and animation software, than I could name quite a few. Though among most popular would be a Maya Personal Learning Edition (http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services/maya/maya_ple/index.shtml) by Alias and gmax (http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/) by discreet.

In that case I can reassure you that you are going to have a hard time finding free rendering plug-ins. But why do you need one to begin with? 3dsmax 6 incorporate one of the best rendering engines on the market: mental ray 3.2 (http://www.mentalimages.com/2_1_0_mentalray/index.html).

But if you desperately in need of an alternative, than you might want to check out turbosquid (http://www.turbosquid.com/HTMLClient/Home/Index.cfm/stgAD/0301J446444A8C841). Especially you should pay attention to the finalRender Stage-1 (http://www.turbosquid.com/HTMLClient/FullPreview/FullPreview.cfm/ID/202477/intType/7/stgCHSource/Feature). Brazil (http://www.splutterfish.com/sf/sf_gen_page.php3?printer=1&page=brazil) might also prove worthy of your time.
