View Full Version : What do you think of Gamecube?

Of all the consoles people talk about here, Gamecube is probably the most insulted and the least talked about. I personally think it's fun to play, and you don't need an awesome TV or VCR/DVD to play it.

What I was trying to say is, unlike PCs, you don't need good hardware to play its games.

Dude, Gamecube rules. Hands down. It rules.
Here's how the consoles break down, IMHO:
PS2 - Worst hardware, ok controllers (Square, triangle shit?) Nice Games library.
Gamecube - Great hardware, best controller, awesome games library, slight lack of software support, best price, best size, lack of DVD support.
Xbox - Best Hardware, Worst controller, Worst shit to great game ratio ever, bleh price, terrible size, DVD Support, internal hard drive with volitile memory.
Gamecube's are awesome. Fucking amazing. They are fun for everyone but can get a little too kiddy, although, they make up for the kiddy with games like Resident Evil and that series. They're very cheap and I'd reccomend picking one up if you have the means. Plus, they can link up to your GBA.
All of the great games for Xbox eventually come out for PC anyways, so that sort of destroys the point of owning an Xbox when you can just wait to get the other game.

GC and PS2 controllers are POS! XBOX controller fits in my hand perfectly, and anyone who says it's too big needs to grow up (physically, not mentally)

I'm in agreement with cr3am. It's actually a good thing the Xbox controller are the size they are - no young idiots playing on Xbox live [thank god for only credit card access] and ruining it like they did to Bnet... :D
cr3am
March 19th, 2003, 09:28 PM
shit... when i was 13 that controller fit me. and the S controller... that's a big POS. the PS2 controller has the joysticks IN THE WRONG PLACE, and i keep pushing the wrong button for GC (although i would get used to it if i had it)
so i think GC = OK, but shit colors
XBOX = perfect in every way
PS2 = POS, and the joystick should be the main thing, not the D-PAD
sushi128
March 19th, 2003, 10:16 PM
that analog pad for the PS (then PS2) was one of the greatest pads ever made. rivals the N-64 pad easily. hate the gamecube POS. can't even hold it.
as for hardware......i think they all have pretty advanced hardware. ATI has a nice chip for flipper, and like somebody already said, there's no stupid windows processes clogging it up. just that nintendo's games are a bit too cartoonish for me (i was REALLY lookin to playing windwaker at my friend's house, right up until i actually saw the game).
one reason i kinda like my XBOX is the net play. it's BROADBAND ONLY.

Dude, if you took the Xbox controller and swung it around by the cord, over your head, and struck someone, you would kill them. Provided the cord doesn't snap first, at which point you'll destroy whatever the fuck that thing hits.
Gamecube controller is perfect. Everything is where it should be.
Gamecube's cartoonish graphics - I like them. I know that there are mixed reviews about them, but the link looks like art and how fucking cool is that? It looks like everything was drawn, not rendered, by drawn by an actual person. It's like a painting that's alive.
Give the Gamecube a try, not one of those demo disks in the stoe, but give it an actual try at a friend's or something. It's pretty fucking awesome and the games, the games are amazing. Super Mario Sunshine is a shitload of fun, better than any of the other Mario games.
Oh yeah, and Penny-arcade.com and Maddox.xmission.com seem to agree with me on the Xbox and Gamecube issue.

Ithink that debating consoles is tough. Each one has it's weak points and it's strong points, It's all a matter of what appeals to you most I guess .
-I love Halo on Xbox and it's harddrive is awsome :D but i has a shit load of crappy games :( the controler is alright by me but could be improved.
-Nintendo is a great company that will never die i'm sure but it's lack of DVD support is bad and the size of the disc's can limit the space of info but other than that it's an awsome system :D
-PS2 is the obvious leader because of it's fan boys of the PS1 and the amazing library of games but it's grafix fall a weee but short of the other two consoles.
SO there!!

Actually, the Minidisks hold a huge amount of information. I'll show one to you sometime. They're incredible.

Nintendos always been for kids... and as far as ive seen so far always will be
Smapdey
March 23rd, 2003, 10:04 AM
You're telling me that resident evil is for kids?
You can't make the case that Xbox is for adults, or PS2 is for any specific age group either, both have games for all groupings. Nintendo just strives to be a lot more kid friendly in some titles however, I disagree that it doesn't have anything for adults. There's plenty of adults that love all the systems, same with children.

If you think Nintendo caters only to kids, then you're deluded. Metroid Prime isn't exactly a kids game, and if you think Conker's Bad Fur Day is, you need to get your head checked. But your're right that there are predominately kid's games
cr3am
March 23rd, 2003, 02:04 PM

Yeah Nintendo does lean twords the younger gamers when it come to games not all gamecube games are for kids obvioustly but a lot of kids game are a lot of fun, like Super Smash Bros. that was the best party game EVER!!

yeah I used to own a 64, loved it then but when I had to decide what console to get I had played a fair bit of ps2 and gamecube and a little of xbox. xbox was the only one that actually impressed me. I rekon the controllers are great, fit perfectly like a better designed dreamcast control. which i also had but had to get rid of due to the lack of support it received, no matter what others think, dreamcast was much better than ps2 i think. Now I just have to wait for halo 2, fable and doom 3 to come out... which yes I know will be far more amazing and awesome on PC for all you guys. I dunno why im arguing anyway, everyone has their own opinion, all consoles have good and bad things/games. I just happen to think xbox has gone that bit further than all others, and the price I got it at was great:)

Super Smash Bros. Melee is even better. More Characters, More Maps, Better Graphics, Better Controller...
Odm
March 25th, 2003, 03:18 PM
Whatever, to each their own. BTW, SSBMelee is the best party game, but the predecessor was the best before melee came out. You could potentially have 64 people play each other in a tournament using one Gamecube with melee. It would take hella long though.

which is another reason why xbox rules, 16 players (and HALO2 will have up to 32 players) can play ONE game, and you can even hook up as many as you want.... FOR FREE! you don't have to go to the place, and fork over ANOTHER $25 for the ethernet connection (pshh... sony making you pay 25 for the internet, 25 for the memory card, 25 for the multitap, at least 25 for the hard drive)
now tell me what's the better deal?

dont make me post this again... arg, too late
from gamefaq.com:
So, I am quite sick with all these posts and all these topics. The media are trying to create a fake image about Nintendo. And we are asked to believe the hype. Nintendo is dying. That is what they say. That is what they want us to believe.
By magnifying every single weakness of the Gamecube, and obscuring every single advantage, they try to bash it. They create paper walls as if light cannot pass through them. They play with your mind. They have labeled everything Nintendo as something kiddy, forgetting that games were initially created for kids and still should be the main target. The have labeled Nintendo as "lacking 3rd party support", yet Nintendo's list is growing and has attracted more bigger names than Microsoft's XBOX.
They also try to move the "war" to a battlefield they can easily win. They have tried to persuade you that Nintendo Gamecube does not sell. That Nintendo Gamecube is the ultimate flop, the ultimate failure in the gaming industry, the worst console ever created, completely obscuring Nintendo's commitment to videogames and fun.
And I ask you! Are we here to believe everything that is served to us "as is"?
For how long we will keep succumbing to everything they spit?
When playing Nintendo videogames will once again become the synonym to playing Good Videogames?
Let them be. Let them talk and let them crawl. Let them Believe the Hype. Maybe it is better this way. Nintendo gaming does not need, does not DESERVE ignorants. Let's play, and let's be proud for this.
We were born to play. Now labeled "idiots", still, we know.
Let's keep playing, let's keep our faith in the Nintendo Gamecube. No matter if we are third or fourth or fifth in this stupid console "wars", let's keep on playing 24:7.
Since when a game's sales had anything to do with its QUALITY?
Let marketing do it's dirty job. You know that it is better to have your eye taken out than having your name shattered.
We lost our name, but still we know that we were doing everything right. SO, keep on playing. After all...
When the ignorants started playing videogames, it was already too late to tell them the difference between a good videogame and a good... Nintendo videogame.
Be proud, and keep on. Play Metroid and then wonder:
If Nintendo is Dying, then... why it's requiem is the magnificence called the Gamecube?
Then, ...Believe the Hype.

First I would like to say that Gamecube has a problem with FPSs, well, i mean the controls(IMO). For the most of it, they shouldve kept the N64 type controller.
So, I am quite sick with all these posts and all these topics. The media are trying to create a fake image about Nintendo. And we are asked to believe the hype. Nintendo is dying. That is what they say. That is what they want us to believe.
Whether Nintendo is going down or not we don't know for sure. Well even if Nintendo is "dying", they could just stop producing consoles and focus on games (i.e. Sega).
Its sad though Nintendo only produces games while Sony and Microsoft have their logo name everywhere (fucking monopolies).
Lets just see what happens in 2005. And now they're facing competition in their Portable systems and which people say that the N-Gage will kick Gameboys ass *snort*.
Anyways, I'm dedicated to Nintendo. The day that Nintendo dies, is the day I stop playing console games (cause we all know the world is coming to an end when there is no more independent gaming companies creating consoles cause they're afraid of the big company power).
