hello ,
i have recentely upgrade my system from GeForce 2 Mx 200(64 mb / SdRam) to Prolink GeForce 4 mx 400 SE (64 MB /DDR ) .
And i am having 2-3 FPS gain over GeForce 2 in all the games .
Why is it happening ???? What is the reason behind it ?????
i have reinstall the Drivers and the games but there is no performance gain ...... help me out
My sys config is :------
Intel P-III 700 Mhz @ Intel 815
256 MB SD RAM
42.xx Detonator
Geforce MX 440 se 64 mb

i have G4 MX440, and it sux. when you get a new memory card, always get MORE ram, even if it's a better kind

it's 64mb of DDR, and that makes a world of difference. besides, the MX440 is comparable to a geforce 2 SUPER DUPER ultra, so i'd say if he got a good price, then all is well (except for the card being only Dx7.....)

Yeah, GeForce 4 MX's are DX7 cards, that means no pixel shaders or vertex shaders. And it also doesn't have enviroment maped bumpmapping either. Like the dude above said, its pretty much just a really powerfull GeForce 2, it has better memory and some extra Antiailising features, but not much else. If you want a big performance gain over a GF2/GF4MX then get a GeForce 3/Radeon 8500 or higher, both of which have pixel shading and vertex shading capabilities. If you have the cash then go for a Radeon 9700 Pro.
*edit*
Tip: Do research before you spend money on a graphics card. You really need to know all the details about these things. Especially since video cards cost so damn much.

I would NEVER touch anything that has MX in it. I understand that people want new graphics card, but do you really want card, or just the name? MX means Mighty-suX, which means it is a bad card. How can peoplestill put down money on a card even when it tells you right on the box that "This is not a full version. Many features are not included."
Never ever buy a MX card from nVidia. They sucks.

They can always go for my cards that i have won at an auction.. and kiddo for whatever reasons you shouldnt have got a gf4 mx whatever.. there are hot deals on various stores for ti4200 64mb rams.. if u can somehow manage get one of those puppies.. and they will rock ur computer.. if by any chance u cannot spend any cash then atleast get an mx 440.. mx 400 (with anything SE) is mere crap!.. sorry to say this but it is.. hurry up

sushi128 is asking the very question I was about to, namely:
GF2MX 400 -or- GF4MX 420/440? (Haven't checked recently, but I thought ALL the 420's were non-DDR.) I completely agree that a GF4MX 440 would be somewhat superior to the older GF2 Ultra. (Great minds think alike, sushi128! ;) )
One of your bottlenecks is probably that 700MHz Pentium III. It's on a 100MHz bus, and that's a bit of bad news too. If you have the i815 that supports the FCPGA2 (Tulatin) CPU's you might consider one of the "newer" Celerons. I've seen people run the 1.1GHz on a 133MHz bus at stock voltages and get 1.466GHz. (Your mileage may vary.) Not too shabby for a $40 CPU. This assumes you have PC133 RAM, of course. If this isn't an option, you may have reached the end of the road, because I don't think it would be worth what they're asking for the faster P-IIIs to get one of those.
You could try overclocking your 700 by running it on a 133MHz bus, but that probably is going to need more voltage and perhaps an upscale heatsink/fan. But, I'm betting you've heard all this before.

MOBO............! People don't forget the MOBO! Maybe his mobo doesn't support anyting higher than PIII 700 Mhz. Time to flash the bios, buddy! Ready to have some serious fun? Flashing mobo's bios is the most exciting thing you could do with your rig. You either save you big bucks on upgrading, or fuck it up completely. And there isn't any rules to go by: the chance of failure is 50%, no question asked. Yes, even when everything is normal, it still could fail if you ate the wrong thing at breasfast...
So... what is my suggestion?
Don't eat breakfast when you decided to flash your bios.

Hahahaha I was joking. I really wish to know what games you used to test your fps. Anychance you would share the names of those games with us?

the mobo is an i815. a very scalable chipset......
should take you all the way through the CuMines, and if you got the EP chipset, maybe into the Tuallies.
ah, i see rhenna covered that....... :(
anyway...
i read "somewhere" that th MX series pretty much maxes out somewhere around the high P3's. i.e., it isn't gonna get any better. keep that in mind.

MX cards are not complete crap as somebody stated above, i get great FPS in most games i play, even some newer games. Even the newest games i've tried are playable (I consider 30FPS or above to be playable). A MX card is great if you are on a buget.
*Edit*
I'm using a GeForce 4 MX440 64Meg DDR w/Tv-Out.

HEY POOPFACE!, more ram doesnt mean better...check out the 64mb 4ti 4200s beating out the 128 mb ones cuz of faster memory clock speeds...
DOH!

always better to get more RAM. u can overclock to get the 64mb speeds, but u can't overclock to get more RAM.
