It's a supposed view of earth at night shot by a satellite. I'm not sure whether it's real, but it's pretty.

It depends on what you mean by fake... this picture was in Sciece magazine last year. It stated that this picture is made by combining all the night scene aroung the world from many different angles, which means they have already tell you that thios picture wasn't taken all at once. It is supposed to be used as a reference of how light concentrate on certain areas of the world, thus indicates the density of the population...

Cool close-up yian. And cr3am, I'm aware that the world isn't dark at the same time. Like yian said, it was supposedly taken at different angles, and turned into a map. At least you can't see the ocean floor.
