Has anyone noticed how despite the fact that most gamers constantly complain that all games now are rehashing older games or are pointless sequels and expansions we take the abuse with a shit eating grin? New game concepts, riviting gameplay and inovative and griping storylines are fading away slowly in the race to apease the masses with mindless copies of games and rehashes while at the same time trying to elevate graphics with the expense of story or heart. I remember the days of Warren Specter's classics like system shock and Deus Ex fondly alongside half-life and many others as original games. sure some of the graphics in those werent the greatest and the textures were a bit dated but the overall thought put into ambiance, gameplay and storyline carried them to our computer screens and into gameing history. Now all we see our Diablo style ARPG's, Bauldors gate ripoffs, a million pointless SIM's expantions, god only knows how many MMORPG's with swords and sorcery, and a million pointless first person shooters. You have all heard these arguments, hell people who arent gamers have heard gamers complain about it forever but the sad part is we allow this to happen. We review games with name recognition as excelent regardless of content and kiss the asses of games like farcry for graphics quality when its story was less than at par. We buy the newest mmorpg's and spend hours of valuable gaming time wasting away on them. where are the inovations? we see a few slip through every year but even now the most anticipated games are sequals(all-beit well developed and impresive looking sequels). Half-Life 2, Doom 3, NWN 2, KOTOR 2, and even the disapointing Splinter cell adition. are there any developers out there making worth while games off of new concepts? yes. There are. but not many and not many getting enough play. When will people wake up and make something new, something impressive, and something with feel?
Thanks for taking the time to read the post I appologize for the poor spelling and sentance structure problems.

Dude, this is not a flame but PLEASE use paragraphs and other usefull text layout method. Easier on the eye, you see.

About your point. I think this is unavoidable. You can't keep on making aboslutely new games. It's ALL been done before. It just depends on how good they make their "rehash".

For instance, I didn't see anyone talk about this when Doom1 and 2 came out. They were all rehashes of Wolfenstein but nobody cared, cause the game kicked ass. Duke nukem, Quake, Quake 2, etc, etc. ALL rehashes of the one and only FPS mother Wolfenstein.

As for the rent. You should not underestimate the power of the graphical aspect of the game. It is only due to it a gamer is able to immerge, become a part of that alternative world, and experience the events at hand. Look at it from the developers point of view. You have to deliver a game with the certain level of visual effects to match the marketing standards, you have to think of the plot to represent the game and it all have to be revolutionary and innovative every time. How’s that for a challenge? Besides a game doesn’t necessarily have to be revolutionary to be interesting and well done. Take Unreal Tournament 2004 for example. Was it revolutionary? No. Yet it is one of the best games out there right now, and I do mean it in the full sense of it.

Keep your shorts on people when I hit the gaming world I will make a huge impact;)

You know im giving myself way too much credit, but everyone I have shown my ideas to gamers and non gamers said they were all very interesting and all original ideas. So far I have made more than a few plots most Sci Fi and some of Fantasy there mostly either FPS or RPGs or something completley different, but I tell you this if I plan on making a game I sure as hell will make it great! Even if it takes 5 years or longer, so from the way it looks if you guys can just sit back and wait for about 9 or 10 years you might be playing a little something by me.

Im interested in who else here is becoming a game developer? Anyone would like to maybe join up one day? That would be rather neat.

You should team up with avatarr. Would be cool btw, if you made a TOTAL hit with just the 2 of you.

i'm going to have to agree with RAD on this one.
with far cry, it was always about the graphics. And i think the graphics made the storyline better than it was. It created an awesome atmosphere, which gave gameplay a boost and thus overall making it an excellent game....game of the year....lol
