Is it just me....or is it that Unreal 2 had not met up to all the hype and excitement around it. Yes, the graphics are top notch, but storywise...it's not as good as it is supposed to be. Game design? just above average. But then, maybe it's just me.....:D

It's everyone. My friend asked me if he should get it saturday. I smacked him.

Nope, not just you. This game was a stale piece of bread. I really was put off by it. The thing I hated the most was:

**Spoiler ahead**...oh wait,a spoiler is a plot give-a-way, plot being something this game had none of!!

The levels where you have to rescue that scientist and escort him to the roof to send a signal, they are a blatant rip on Half-life!! I mean the damn quips that the scientist utters are vile non-funny trash, a damn kid could think of better, jeez. This is one of many issues, like the banter that goes on in the ship, it is just worthless. I have so much seething anger towards that game, I bloody wasted $45.00 bucks on it, luckily I made most of it back by selling it to an uninformed person. Still it repulses me that stuff like this happens, all eye-candy no brains (great in a chick but not in games....;).)

Well it felt really dumb, the convos, the plot, the character actions, just like cheapest hollywood film ever with stuning visuals.

Yeah, the story was very weak I thought. However, I was impressed with the performance, even on my duron750, gf2mx.. but the story, oh god. It was just crap, it was predictable and just generally weak.

Performance? Hah, I turned EVERY possible thing down... internally and externally and it still ran like shit on my P3 733mhz 312mb of ram and a GeForce2 MX-400. Not the common 64mb but the rare 32mb version.

This game is the equivolent (dammit, i said it once, i can rape the english language as much as i want, im from the future) of tying a F1 racer to your balls and giving him the go ahead to drag you screaming down the strip.

This sucks. All the hyped up games are turning out to suck with the exception of Freelancer which tunred out very decently. But MOO3... dammit, I was really wanting it to be good.

Unreal II... bah. I actually wanted the game to suck because I knew I would barely be able to run it. That's my philosphy: If you can't run it, hope it'll suck... or something.

FPS dont need stories! Just bigger guns as you progress, and bigger baddies thats the best. I enjoyed Unreal 2 cause I didnt listen to the story. Its like a Porno your not there to hear a good story your just there to see pussy. Goes the same for FPS you not there for a story just to shoot things!

You and I think very differently. You must love Serious Sam... hell I do too...

Thank god (gods,it, he, she, they, it??) for a segmented market! If not we'd all have to bow to your wishes nuc. I can see that a niche market is a healthy thing (Serious Sam, etc.) but when a game freaking promises to do incredible things like blow your dad and then do your trig. 3 homework (in U 2's case blow out all other games with it's supreb A.I. and scripted goodness and also claiming a story to rival hemingway) then i'll be damned if I ain't happy when I don't get it! Someone could argue "well, don't put up such high expectations..." I say to that person "Go screw your mom or closest living kin" because I expect good crap if I shell out my money and or time. And like I said niche markets are great cuz we all sometimes want to see "Debbie does Dallas" instead of "Citizen Kane".

LOL, Serious Sam kicks ass, me and a bunch of friends played through the whole thing together at a lan party. I can't find the Second Encounter here in my town though, kind of sucks and I dont have a CC so I cant order it. Ya but Im not big on story unless its an RPG and some RTS, WC3's was awsome. I loved the Story in Morrowind though a bit hard to follow, need to pick up the expansion for that so I can play through it.

The whole story thing comes down to my impatience, I DONT WANA HEAR AIDA BRIEF ME I WANT TO KILL SKAAR!

Unreal 2 just failed in some many aspects of game design it's not even funny. But the biggest gripe I have with the game HAS to be the storyline...

Not to spoil the game for anyone, but the plot had some HUGE holes in it, especially towards the end. Yes, the environments were quite simply Unreal, but it didn't make up for the monotonous and unoriginal game play and story line.

I wonder what stopped Legend from hiring a semi-talented writer to do the story. I mean, the one they have was certainly not written by a pro.

That's simple to answer: money!

2Lions
March 4th, 2003, 02:50 AM
Well, that's just the point! It cannot possibly be a money issue. I'm certain they had enough funding for this game. Could it be that the story wasn't even on the list of their priorities?

Stop dragging the word story through the mud like that guys

well, U2 will be a game that i will avoid like the plague!

And since were on the Unreal thing, i wasnt impressed with the new UT.....we got it here at work.....it ran like crap. At the end of the day we went back and installed UT1 so we could get our fix! lol

Seems to much like Quake, which i like well enough, but if i want Quake...well u know, i'll play Quake.

Now were playing 1942....having a blast with that!

Dude, we're just all over The Road to Rome here at the AT offices of midget pr0n and animal love. Really, the game is awesome!

Voivod
March 4th, 2003, 07:52 AM
is there a way to get the Road to Rome maps to run dedicated server mode? weve got the old dedicated server EXE which is great.....but we can only run the new maps if one of us hosts. Am i missing something? the official site dosent seem to have a file for that.

We play co-op maps vs 3-1 bots.....so hosting is out of the question....we can only team death match at the moment.

About Unreal 2... Yeah I was disappointed too when I tried it on my someone's computer... I played through two levels, and the visuals are great... and that's about it...

But I can shoot things in Unreal 2! RtR is awsome I never get around to playing much though, new bombers are sweet but there are always plane campers to deal with. The Bayonet was one of the best additions in my opinon, I have had some fun with that.

Raxc
March 4th, 2003, 04:43 PM
Wait wait wait.... UT2k3 runs like shit on your computers but 1942 doesn't? Even my shitbox could run UT2k3 at fairly decent speeds but it never did run 1942 anywhere near a playable level of .. gameplayage or something.

1.1 or 1.2 patch fixed a lot of things, it made it run really smooth. I could play with 63 bots no slow down.

I didn't even bother installing U2.

I'm eating cake icing plain. It's great.

Since when did everybody get so involved with a game's storyline, or lack there of? Yeah, Legend hyped U2 has having a deep tale to tell, but I don't remember them claiming it was Pulitzer Prize material or anything. It was fine. I think of all the friggin' hours I played Doom, Doom II and Quake, all of which were VERY cool games but didn't have two cents worth of storyline among 'em. Can't remember too much whining about story then. The only MAJOR issue I have with U2 is that I thought it could have been, (should have been), another 5 or 6 levels longer. I took my time, savored the all the sights to see, and enjoyed all the little details. Too bad there's no multiplayer, but I know the Unreal mod community will straighten that out. U2 does a lot more right than wrong; no way can I bury this along with some of the REAL crap I've spent $ on over the years. I respectfully disagree...

You are essentially right, Rhenna. I never said that Unreal 2 was crap, that would be an irresponsible and harsh statement. I still had fun playing it; it's just that it fails in the story department, and you must agree with me when I say that story is very important when it comes to single-player shooters. Esepcially those that don't have MP support.

I can't believe I paid for U2... I should have just ripped a copy like UT2003 - Now there is a good game!

I wonder if I could swop U2 for UT2003... Any takers?

Just use U2 as a coaster for drinks at a party. That's what I do with CDs now anyways.

You have proven my point that the UNREAL series BLOWS...THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
