I played the first one and it is my favorite game of all time. I know I am just going to love the second one... the sound, the story, the graphics, the delicious gameplay...... its going to be awesome! Does anyone agree?

The first one was a complete joke and I can't believe that people loved it. This time they better give the entire game a facelift or I will still call it a complete joke. I will sit and wait for more informations and make my decision.

What exactly was a joke about it? It was an awesome game that couldhave used better graphics and dialouge script (even though the voice acting was decent) but it was still good. Why was it a joke?

When I played demo, I fell in love with it. I finally got full version and damn good game. I have to say characters were a bit fucked up though. When I played with my friend, we will always try to use the iron bar. Hitting people over the head was hilarious.
I’m also interested. Why do you think it’s a joke?

Why it was bad? First, the AI is so unrealistic. If I sniped someone from far away, all the enemies know exactly where I was and come to me all at once, despite the scale of the mal and the complexity of the levels.
Then it is so weird to find all the items you need in crates that scatter around the city, like the entire city is a big warehouse for you to break things and take whatever you want.
Finally, I hate crack-pot conspiracy stuff. Nothing wa really going on while they kept telling me all the "conspiracy" shit...
Since you mentioned it, yeah, the graphics were bad, too.
Oh, and also, this game crashes a lot for whatever reason.
But it really kind of depends on the mood. My taste has changed drastically over the years, and maye be I will try this game again. I might suddenly find this game is fun. My friends used to hate Homeworld, but after I forced them to have a skirmish with me, they can't stop playing it! I will give it a shot again soon.

I think that if they take the best from the first one and improve everything else it will be one of the best games ever.

any better games that came out in 2000 that you can compare it to? kinda hard to say it sucked if it was, in fact, just good for it's time.
one i can think of off the top of my head is No One Lives Forever. that game had an INCREDIBLE AI.
can't wait for Deus Ex IW :)

Come to think of it the combat kindof sucked sometimes. But I love crackpot conspiricies so I loved the story. And also I loved the AI. Why? Cuz it was so fun. I snipe somebody and they all come running towards me right? Well then I run through the nearest door and get beside of it. They have no periphial vision and they just stand there once they pass the door. then I place a nice headshot with my pistol. Fun as hell

Deus Ex, I thought, was a terrific game. Yeah, it had some low poly graphics, important stuff was often there for the taking, and I thought some of the Hong Kong and Paris story elements and levels were subpar, but the game overall was huge in scope and had a good mix of different styles of gameplay. It sure did a hell of a lot more right than wrong. And, there's probably more replay value than in most games. (I've gone through it 3X.) I put some of the flakey combat down to J.C. Denton being an inexperienced agent. Unless there is some REALLY bad pre-release press on "IW", they already have a sale as far as I'm concerned.

Did you ever try to put a silencer on your sniper riffle? Of course the bad guys will come running when they hear that cannon go off. It can be heard miles away and the same goes for all the other noisy weapons. Silent weapons, on the other hand, doesn't alert the rest of the bad guys ... unless they see the guy fall or spot his body laying there on the ground afterwards.
Then it is so weird to find all the items you need in crates that scatter around the city, like the entire city is a big warehouse for you to break things and take whatever you want.
Okaaayy ... please name just a single FPS game where ammo, weapons, health packs, armour, you-name-it ISN'T scattered around the levels on more or less strategic places. This may be considered to be unrealistic for some but at least it is a consistent way of making sure the player can stay alive and still find a game challenging. Even so, many games are much more generous in the amount of ammo and other items than Deus Ex was and I often had to be extra careful when taking aim in order to preserve ammo.
Regarding the so-called "crack-pot conspiracy" theory that plays a vital role in the story and the quality of the graphics, I will not comment these issues as it really is just a matter of tastes. I really liked the story and in my oppinion the graphics were sufficient to do the job properly and to me, that's what counts (I point to Unreal2 as an example of the opposite case).
Come to think of it the combat kindof sucked sometimes.
How? Was it because you actually had to upgrade your skills as well as the weapon before the true potential unfolded? Or was it because only certain weapons were effective against certain enemies?
I could go on but as you probably already guessed: I really REALLY REALLY liked Deus Ex :D
Regarding the poll then I voted for "I'll wait and see the reviews". The reason for this is simply because Deus Ex: IW is a multiplatform project and I'm a bit concerned that the final game becomes too "console-like" for my taste. I hope this will not happen but if it does, I'd rather skip the sequel than tarnish the reputation of the original game.
Cheers!

I worry about the interface being dumbed down too much I liked the interface on the original. Another thing I dont want to see is the game way too short. I think the sucky part of the combat that he was talking about is a close quarters fight seems jerky even on a fast system. Funny phyisics model probably.
